Do feel Pompey are the L1 masters of the string in the tail - nicking wins and taking points when underperforming. But my fingers will be crossed for the second half.
That was it today.

In my local, consensus of opinion from Pompey fans was, we were brilliant and they got lucky.
Before the game all I asked was that Des unlocked the shackles. I’m now convinced he reads this forum. We were brilliant. Deserved 3 points. Ok forget the first 90 seconds. Dale and Murphs were almost unplayable.
Fans were great and the rendition of oh when the saints was so funny, and was heard by the Fratton end.
What I want to say is for all of you who weren’t at the game today is this bunch of players believe in Des, they ran through hoops for him. We deserved so much more today and I couldn’t have been prouder being a Yellow.
Sorry Eggy if I’m more positive than you tonight.
Now for a kebab as I’m starving and haven’t eaten since breakfast and my best mate ( who is a Pompey fan) told me he was diagnosed with prostate cancer yesterday. So I’m doubley pissed off tonight. Life’s a bitch.

Way too late, it's only taken 20 games to get a half decent performance out of this team and we still lost.
A bit of a running theme there.
As long as he’s still in the job it’s never too late, but it certainly adds weight to every game. Today was big. He either needed a win or a big performance to restore some interest in what’s left of the season - I.e. a feeling that we can still do it. He got the latter which at least allows us to approach Saturday with some optimism rather than dread. Sadly that’s where we are now. Small incremental wins while we wait patiently for Des to find to the formula. 6 wins feels like a lot to me but we need to approach it as a fresh start in a 10 game mini league and try and top it, then who knows. Approach the play offs with 6 or 7 wins in your last 10 and you’ll arguably be the favourite.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Burey subbed at half time in a game, and hasn't featured since?

If so, I'd imagine he's upset Des either with his reaction to being subbed, or something since πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Can't see any other reason he's not at least making the squad

From what I was told today he’s been late for training & been taking unauthorised trips to and from Denmark.. that might be why.

Good performance today, shame about the result, deserved more.

The bar has now been set, so this is the minimum we should produce/expect for the last 10 games + the other 3 if we make it.

Agree Murphy was superb today but also wanted to praise Brannagan. His workrate was incredible, the amount of moves he closed down in the first especially was outstanding. Granted his set pieces weren’t generally that good but his attitude and desire was exemplary.

I walked back to Pompey and Southsea train station, had a pint over the road from it and then got a train to Guildford so was surrounded by the fuckers and all I heard was how lucky they had got, no doubt we were the better team.

However you have to not give silly goals away and put your chances away which we didn’t do so I don’t think we can complain to much, we were better but we still need to do more, starting next Saturday.

He needs to be taken off of them unless they're penalities or around 20 yards out within sight of goals, his corners are quite often awful and I'd rather him on the edge of the box when we take ones out wide.
Absolutely, thought it was strange though that Reuben took that one in the second half just outside the area as it looked prime Brannagan territory.

From one of the many Portsmouth forums

...hey were excellent and will make the playoffs comfortably on that performance. They were a huge step up from when we played them at their place but they get 1 point more for that performance than this such is the mad nature of football.

Much better performance but it looks like our season is over, I thought so last week against Leyton Orient.
We will finish higher than last year maybe as high as ninth, but as for the play offs let’s be realistic and write this season off
Not until it’s not mathematically possible.

Still have no idea how we lost that. Much improved performance. Played with more urgency, hopefully that will be a sign of things to come. Only negative was the substitutions…..completely ruined the flow of the game when we were on top. Chasing a game like that I would have liked to have seen Goodwin play up top with Harris alongside or just behind him
I was hoping we’d start with them both playing, but would have definitely liked to see them on the field together at some point.

Brannagan didn’t take all the set pieces today which was good, but the delivery/shots still need to be worked on.

That was a very impressive performance on the back of several very unimpressive performances. It was the first time we looked like we had a plan since Des arrived and, quite honestly, the first match I’ve watched since he took over that I have enjoyed for the whole 90 minutes.

I never want to see Oxford lose but as I said to my son at half time, I don’t actually care if we lose if we play like that for 90 minutes because the football was great to watch and we dominated and created chance after chance. When we play like that, we are going to win many more games than you lose.

The key is whether we can repeat the performance again next week at home against a physical side. Another week on the training ground like this past week gives me some optimism that we just may. Like others have said though, Burey MUST be on the bench. We need game changers/pace on the bench and that was sorely lacking today and a striking contrast to Pompey’s sub who won the game for them.
