Home Match Day Thread +++ OUFC v Accrington Stanley 25/02/20 +++

Slow start but very comfortable in the end. Taylor was once again very very good, his work rate was phenomenal and really plays that lone striker role well. Moore is getting better and better and not sure Mousinho Is going to get back in this team. A word for Long too, had a dodgy couple of games but great tonight - neat and tidy on the ball and aggressive in the challenge. A Cruyff turn too and that was a lovely overhead kick to send Henry away for our third.

The cold was insidiously evil. Thought Accrington were worthy opponents tonight but oh, their tactics. They left masses of space whenever caught in possession and once we clocked on to this it could have been more. Browne talented but infuriates a lot,he’s got to learn to be more of a team player. Didn’t think Sykes looked at deaths door did you? As for Taylor he’s a different player with Henry on the pitch. Crowd woeful and you have to think that I player game for a tenner offer doesn’t help. COYY.

ps that blogger describing George Thorne as looking like a roadie for Mumford And Sons is still making me chuckle; possibly the most statuesque footballer ever - but what a talent.

Eventually a comfortable win tonight that belies an Accrington side who looked dangerous right up to our second goal.
The clean sheet was hard fought for from the quite brilliant defence typified by Simon Eastwood. A double save that kept us clean was right out of the top drawer.
At times you look at this side and see an embarrassment of riches, they truly are a joy to watch as they move the ball with such consummate ease. But they are capable of grinding it out when it is required and they certainly had to earn the right to play in that first half.
Henry, Browne, Brannagan and Taylor are fit and firing again... We stepped it up second half and just blew Accy away.
I actually felt quite sorry for them as they huffed and puffed trying desperately to put a foot on the ball that was constantly on the move. It’s almost brutal at times.

Putting aside my love for this club for one moment, Why Karl Robinson would consider moving on right now is a mystery to me.
This time, this moment, this team that he has built is of his design. He is on the cusp of something quite brilliant and utterly different to his Charlton experience. Perhaps one of his finest moments in football is imminent right here and now.

He could wait and see how the land lies at the end of the season but moving on now would, in my opinion be a poor decision no matter what.
Sometimes, you just don’t get the luck or the breaks in football, from what I see, he has the players here and now that would run through brick walls for him. Surely, he must know that to move on at this point would break that bond and consign this season (and all he has achieved within it) to the bin. All he has worked so tirelessly for, reduced to a numbing denouement would surely be unthinkable wouldn’t it?

3-0 is top notch - but it could have been so different if Stanley had taken a couple of their chances in the first half. But this is a totally different United side to yesteryear as yesteryear we would have folded in that first half no question about that.

However, we scored arguably against the run of play and whacked another corker straight after the restart resulting in the Stan's crumbling to defeat and to boot our speed of attack in the second half was at times a different class and that was the difference.

So tonight's result has given us a gigantic 9 PTS out of 9 which is absolutely excellent...but 5600 in attendance isn't. In true Delia Smith style... where are you?

Coyy's.

Lots of excellent performances last night, but wanted to reiterate a previous poster from here, Thorne looked ring rusty, but what a player he looked at times. Fair play to him for playing on a basic wage to resurrect his career, we are very fortunate to have him, it would be great to have him for next season.

It was Accy who added 69, it was freezing, it was a school night and it’s the end of the month.
I thought we’d get about 6k so disappointing but the above factors do have a bearing.

add into the equation it was cold, very cold ( not helped by the cold already imbeded at the breeze block irresspective of weather conditions, though when its cold weather the breeze block is akin to sitting in a deep freezer for 2 hours) plus there was snow, or snow forecast in some areas,, European football was on TV, was ifollow offering live footage the game for £10 in the Uk last night too?.... and with respect to Accrington Stanley (and their travelling 69), theyre not one of L1's biggest draws to 'occasional' OUFC supporters at the best of times, nevermind on a freezing cold Feb night and theyre not Man City, Newcastle or West Ham!,..... plus it was Half term last week, which may be a factor for some OUFC supporting youngsters out in the Market towns in the 'Shire ( being a school night was THE main factor for my grand daughter who is out in Witney not going to the game for instance- as it was for an aquaintance of mine who along with 2 youngsters goes to some OUFC home games from out Long Hanborough way)....
