Given that 'Today is meaningless until we play like this and win' isn't a long sentence how did you miss the 'unless we play like this and win' bit?I don't think today was meaningless. We showed that we can compete with the team very likely to be champions. We saw the importance of having Elliott Moore back. And we saw how Des wants to play with out and out wingers, and Murphy and Dale were excellent. All of these things are huge positives that we can build on for the remainder of the season.
We also saw that not taking your chances and making mistakes at the back will cost you. And it is just as important to focus on this as to look at the improvements.
10 games to go and 6 wins and a couple of draws will probably be enough, and there was plenty to show that this is possible but by no means guaranteed.

Arguably it makes absolutely no difference how we play if we win. But finding a style that allows us to perform nearer our best, and building confidence and consistency does matter.
Therefore today wasn't meaningless.
For weeks we have been told people canโt see the way Des wants to play, the football is boring. Well today we could see how he wanted to play, it was exciting to watch and yes we didnโt win but it is a step forward IMO.It was if we donโt play like that next week and so on.
Iโm interpreting it as a dig towards people who wanted Des gone after last week (of which there werenโt many anyway, some were just nailing their colours to the mast after we crowned a pretty shocking 4-6 weeks). How is that in any way a "told you so" post?

Afraid the players have more to show than the odd week here and there to say Des has it right. For weeks we have been told people canโt see the way Des wants to play, the football is boring. Play like that next week and we will win.
This is the problem, can you see us putting in that performance next week ? I canโt. Iโm basing my view on 19 games, not one. Why would Des suddenly become this pro active, front foot manager ? We know thatโs not him and we can almost guarantee that if we get ahead next week he will go defensive to see the game out. Iโd love to be proved wrong but I just donโt think a defensive minded coach can switch his philosophy just like that. We know by now exactly what we get with Des.

I like Mous...but I'm not sure that he's ready (yet) for the top job at a club that wants to be as ambitious as we do.
How do we know itโs not him? He literally said last week we have only seen his style of play in parts. Today seemed like that was a full Des performance and it was exciting to watch. This is the problem, can you see us putting in that performance next week ? I canโt. Remarkable chutzpah from someone who was saying this, just 13 months ago...
No, 1 performance doesnโt mean everything is ok but surely it is a stepping stone to build on. To dismiss a much improved performance after the last few weeks is very short sighted IMO. I would also suggest that no one expected us to play like that or that weโll before todays game. In fact most were expecting us to get walked over today.Afraid the players have more to show than the odd week here and there to say Des has it right.
Would point to players respect of themselves or Mous, rather than saying weโll see it to the end of season.

Still, if I was you Iโd worry about your 1 true love getting an absolute pasting tomorrow by Man City.
You haven't change much over the years, have you James?
