Brown was better than Moore today, our MOTM by far.
Is a classic 'well if you're out of position you'll make more noticeable blocks or interventions to make up for your mistakes'. Not to say he wasn't brave and did some good bits, but some of the fundamentals were lacking.

For their final goal Brown was caught under the ball off his man and not for the first time.

Des did promise attacking football ,we all thought we would be doing the attacking though. Two bad results at home and I don't know what the place will be like.

The only fit player we have at the club that wasn't on the bench today is Ed McGinty.

Josh Murphy was taken off to protect him, and James Henry will also be nursed through the next few games.

We're on our barebones and that is the main reason for our slide. It doesn't matter what identity Des has for the team if he only has a handful of players to pick from.
Only a couple of months ago we had a squad that was really strong and players not even making the bench that made us think wow we are on a journey. Suddenly injuries to a couple of standouts in Leigh and ???? (No one else really) And we are down to the bare bones.

Long is not good enough in a League One top half side, Browne great on his day but hardly ever plays so don’t consider him a regular and a huge miss, Edwards great for a couple of games but another we’ve rarely seen, Bodin decent League one player but slow and hardly an outstanding must be in the starting 11 player (tho decent squad back up), Negru again decent squad back up but not first choice ?? and Woltman who knows, but can’t consider him a miss as never seen enough evidence of whether there is a quality player ready now for the team or not.

Basically we need more steel, strength and power throughout the side, pretty tip tappy football at the back gets us nowhere and we have a general weakness against any teams of substance and strength. We have had the same old problems for years and nothing changes. We set up the same regardless of the opposition and have gameplan A and no other alternative or answer in the squad or coaching mentality to be any different. We just don’t have enough physicality in the side or the squad in general, we always look smaller and weaker than the opposition, and yes we deliver when the conditions prevail but when the going gets tough we simply don’t get going!

It hurts to say it but it’s fact!

I'm sorry but our players available, if managed correctly, should be more then enough for at least a point today.

Interesting point about McGinty being the only fit player not on the bench. I must admit I don’t know much about our younger squads but it’s been discussed for quite a few years now how much investment we’ve made in the Academy squad & infrastructure around it. Should we be expecting some of these to be challenging the first team squad by now?
So far it seems to be only Tyler and God, who starting challenging last season, but are there any more on the horizon?

You sound like someone who really knows what’s going on behind the scenes at Oxford United.
Who knew there was no intention to replace the assistant coach and analyst that left with Manning.
Who knew that DB did not want to work with the existing back room staff .
Who knew that DB is really the Lone Ranger with no Tonto .
I’m here if needs me!

Des came in with a ‘reputation’ of being a great coach. He hasn’t coached.

Everyone, including him, now blaming lack of support staff are giving him excuses he doesn’t deserve. He has an analyst, he has coaches - if he doesn’t want to work with them after coming into the club knowing the set up - does he deserve those excuses?

The club employed him in good faith, they have been shocked at his lack of coaching ability and ability to work with all the players and other staff. The hunt has been on for an assistant and an analyst partly for him but mainly to help him.

Sad turn of events for what the club thought would be a good appointment.

The new regime in the club have good staff but they don’t realise until it’s too late (Ed Denton, Wayne Brown, John Mousinho). The owners need to start valuing current staff as well as the fans.
I can't disagree with any of this. It has the feeling of "caretaker manager" all over it, albeit on a 3.5 year deal.

The time taken for an assistant to be hired is absolutely diabolical, but thats our higher echelons all over. Des needs an experienced head beyond belief.

Let's be straight, it's been a disaster so far (less than a point a game) but the next few weeks can change that if they get their arses into gear.

I desperately want this appointment to work so so much.

Have a look at the MOTM votes
Brown 36 votes, next best Bennett 7 and Moore 3!!
Moore didn't jump well for the first goal .
Enough said. There is Championship interest in Brown in January.

Two starters then

That's maybe true, but assuming that you would have started Leigh and Edwards, that would have then given us the option of being able to bring the likes of Murphy/Tyler, Browne and Bodin off the bench to change the game. As a result of these injuries, all of our substitutions made us weaker.

Not a single poster on here would have changed our starting line up today following the performance against Burton, and the fact that we had no one else that was any better.

Injuries happen, and other teams have to deal with them too. However, we already had shortfalls in our squad before a ball was kicked, and that is hitting us particularly hard right now.

I’d say it’s hitting us. Agreed. But particularly hard. Well we aren’t Adjusting or doing well. For sure. But does our squad have more injuries than other teams. Honestly not sure. But I figure in mid December it’s not completely abnormal.

I think Manning flattered to deceive at times. And there’s a quorum of agreement on squad areas for improvement.

I’d also say Des has got off to a slow start in spite of all of that.

Sounded like a good game to miss.,The Rafio Northampton commentators,( why don’t we get Rad Ox on the audio stream), were making their team out to be as feted as Holland 1974; excrutiating broadcasting.

Several of our best players remain injured and that’s having an impact.

We’d have all taken 5th at Christmas at the beginning of the season though so this gnashing of teeth, (booing players!?) is frankly a bit pathetic.

Can’t you select ox audio? You can on the video stream.

Dear oh dear, let’s not give credit where it’s due and all start blubbing like a load of petulant children, fúcking embarrassing. Dry your eyes will you, I don’t want to shatter your egos or anything but we were down to the bare bones. With 7 out we hadn’t a senior professional to add to the bench and despite us being newly promoted you got played off the park, title contenders my arśe. The problem is at the end of the day historically you are a non league club punching above your weight, it’s inevitable you will ultimately find your level, and it ain’t here. Chris Wilder knew it, and that’s why he sacked you off. If you will insist on playing games with big boys you are going to get your arses kicked. Either way if you read our forum you’ll note when we get beaten by the better side on the day we have the integrity and decency to say so and don’t start throwing our teddies about. And you wonder why we think you’re c**ts. Now off you trot to mummy for a cuddle.

Chris Finch, I heard about Blockbusters.
