Current Player Stuart Findlay

It was Gorrin’s mistake that led to their goal away to derby.

Findlay is a solid defender but just doesn’t fit in with how we want to play. He isn’t comfortable with the ball at his feet and he is a CB suited to a long ball team who want a CB to kick it and head it.
It was his pass though that led to Derby scoring

As some have said, Findlay isn't a bad footballer, far from it. But he is limited and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit that playing the ball out from the back isn't his game, and that's very clearly something Liam Manning is looking for.

Interestingly, after the Blackpool defeat in the playoffs, Robinson spoke about needing to be bigger and stronger in every area, and this is often quoted back as proof that he failed and never learnt from his mistakes.

Findlay is probably the only player that he every brought in that met this requirement. A strong, no nonsense defender who would clear the ball into row z if needed (or not needed!) In the right set up with the right players around him, he could have been far more effective and I'm sure he'll look good elsewhere.

It didn't work out for him and I hope that he moves on and does well for Kilmarnock both for him personally, and to help turn the loan into a permanent deal to take him off our books.

Gorrin is dragged over to the ball and vacates his position in the middle of the park, contributing nothing defensively, but it’s still a ridiculously poor pass from Findlay that was nowhere near an Oxford player and was never going to get anywhere except intercepted.

Also the first of many examples from last season of Eastwood being beaten by a low shot into the bottom corner from outside of the area, when he had plenty of time to see it and really should have done better. I’d argue he’s at least as poor in defending that goal as Gorrin is, with Findlay most at fault.

I’m calling it.

The Sliding Doors moment is that if Findlay/Gorrin hadn’t muffed up for that goal we conceded at Derby, we’d have gone unbeaten all season and been promoted Champions.

We’d still be losing Findlay this summer but he is instead moving to Real Madrid.

Nah, he'd have been going to a big rich club like Al-Nassr.

Yeah, good luck to him - should never be any hard feelings towards a player that came in and gave it his all every time he put on the yellow. What let Findlay down was never attitude, just skill.

Frankly if Robbo hadn't decide to pin the Ipswich debacle entirely on his shoulders, and had played him more often in January/February, we'd probably have ended a few points clearer from relegation than we did (but Thorniley is a better all-round player, so we're better set for the coming season).

The Ipswich debacle ?

The Ipswich debacle ?

I thought that was the game you went to this season?

KR deciding to scapegoat Findlay for the 3-0 Boxing Day thrashing (when there was a lot of blame to be handed out - but the biggest slice of it to KR for deciding to play a two man midfield away at the division's best team), and he didn't start again until the 25th February........

Yes one of my three games for last season (not this season 😉). Plastic fan right here.

I was just amazed to hear he’d been scapegoated. We bossed it for 22 minutes until Browne went off injured (he was terrorizing them) and then the tactics were absurd, and Ipswich were also absolutely superb. (See final table)

What a Wally KR was. And the daft comments and dramatic gestures like dropping him afterwards

Played 90 minutes for Kilmarnock as they beat Rangers 1-0. Roofe came on as substitute near the end. John Lundstram and Marley Watkins also featured.

I know it's early days, but some Kilmarnock fans suggesting Findlay is their signing of the season so far, how long is he contracted to us? And could we recall him in January and get a fee for him in the transfer window?

Contracted until 2026

I always assumed he was better than we saw, but at the same time he wouldn't be able to play the football Manning wants. Hopefully he keeps impressing and they want to buy him, ideally in January if we're up there to give us some money for reinforcements for the second half of the season. If that's not beneficial for them as we're paying a good chunk of his wages then could we recall him anyway and offer him about to other Scottish (or any) clubs? Perhaps the threat of doing so would be enough for Kilmarnock to pony up.

I'm glad it's working out for him anyway. I doubted his talent but never his attitude.

Early days, but a good start. Either he becomes irreplaceable for Kilmarnock and it becomes a deal they have to do, or he attracts attention elsewhere from a club prepared to pay the fee we want.

I watched Killie's opening game vs Rangers and they have a lad on the right, Daniel Armstrong, who was very decent. In his mid-20's. Complete pot shot opinion from me off the back of one game but if he's like that most weeks and we have a vacancy, give them the opportunity to keep Findlay as part of a deal. He was fantastic - far better than any Rangers player on the day.

Not shocked at all that Findlay is doing well back home. He will be happy there, regaining his confidence and knows the league well. He joined a circus here under a self-sabotaging ringmaster and once the Ipswich game became his fault, he was never the same. But he was never built for this brand of football anyway. Let's hope he continues to do well and somebody comes in with a decent offer over the next 12 months.
