The whole Murphy situation is becoming a bit of a running joke again. I've heard that he's a thoroughly decent human being, good background etc. But while Tyler Goodrham is starting games of huge magnitude, Murphy, a former Premier League player, stays at home while apparently fit. Manning has no real alternative but to put a positive spin on it but at this point it's hard to see any positives in this and he must be tired of covering it up. He quite clearly isn't mentally invested in playing for us - or playing at all, for that matter. Best thing for everybody, the press included, is to stop talking about him and focus on players who do want to be part of it. After the result we had in the week, it's a shame OM had to go for this story rather than something Manning would like to talk about.
He looked relaxed and happy today from what I saw. fit and an absolute hammer of a left foot, its a mystery but hopefully he'll come good or find another club.

Basically, “I won’t c**t him off because I’m not a dick, but he’s been told he can go if anyone is willing to take him.”
Exactly! I'd imagine LM would be happy to see the back of YW, JM and JH in truth given how little value they have on the playing squad. Any chance of all 3 being gone before Sept 1st? Clearly not "Manning" players.

Murphy played against Bristol City and was there on Saturday with other non-playing squad members.

Rather than ignoring him, we need to stop talking about "staying at home" or "not mentally invested in playing" when both statements are complete B*****s.

Didn't seem that way today mate.

I think only two players are coming in one a left back and another striker.

Only outgoing I can see is Wildschut and possibly McGinty.

He's a talented boy. The one time he showed some interest in playing for us he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. His performance vs Cheltenham arguably kept us in the division. He then did the whole social media 'show' of a bit of early pre season on his own but here we are and he's invisible.

Maybe, just maybe, he watched on Tuesday and thought to himself 'I wish I was there' and that's got his motor running, hence a decent effort in training all of a sudden.

But it's the selective use of his ability that pisses me off. Get out there and terrorise some L1 full backs. That's the quickest way back to enjoying it and rediscovering your love for the game. Not as if he's doing it for free, either.

He likes Henry. He’s excellent around the club and is apparently a great mentor to younger players. I think he sees huge value in having him around the place.

He's missed the only 3 games of any importance to us and come off the bench when we're already dead and buried but sure, sunny side up as always.

Also, not sure what part of Manning's interview really suggests anything different. He's essentially saying he's a last resort until he proves himself otherwise. And he's not that far down the pecking order because of his ability.

Has he stayed at home for any of these games as you stated? Is he not mentally invested in playing for the club as you stated?

It's not a case of being sunny side up by calling out someone who is lying to run down a player who others have said was looking in great nick today in training. But then I guess after Sam Long had a great game this week you need to find another scapegoat.

Sad position to take, but each to their own.

You got me, I didn't know he was at the game. But what difference is his use to us at home or in the stands? The point is he isn't on the pitch and he's seemingly not considered someone trusted to come on and make a difference in an important game. I won't be the only fan who presumes these things.

Not everything is about Sam Long. Take the posters down as well.

Henry's been great for us for years, and I"m not sure why some people seem to get such pleasure at the idea of him being booted out of the club. Even if you don't think he'll be good enough after his injuries, surely show some respect to a great club servant.

Only 11 players can be on the pitch at the same time. Why are you concentrating on Murphy when Smyth and Woltman have faced a similar situation?

Anyone else surprised at how much confidential information on salary fitness and player motivation the club shares with certain posters on here- especially as they don't seem to be very good at keeping schtumm
All financial dealings of all clubs, including wages and fees, are held by numerous organisations from the footballing authorities to all manner of agencies. Not everything comes from the tea ladies. You can even see most of the accounts for teams in the league on companies house, which often details spending on fees and salaries.

Good to have you back, poppet xo

Apples vs pears. Woltman wasn't missing all of last season and a known project for the long term. I could concentrate on Smyth but nobody posted a OM article asking Manning about him. Neither are senior players at the top of our wage bill like Murphy is - the standards are different. Not singling him out for no reason - someone sent the link so I'm reacting with my perception of it. Sorry gents. Order restored!

Are you related to Sam Long? Is he a friend of the family?
Asking for a friend.

Oh, so he's not staying at home or refusing to play? So you made that up! But you're sure that he isn't trusted to play or are you making that up too?

18 players in the matchday squad, only really 2 spots in the starting line up and 2 more off the bench for wingers/wide forwards. Tuesday we started with Browne and Goodrham with Mills and Stevens on the bench, with Stevens giving the additional cover at right/left back. So it's a case of managing the squad appropriately.

Murphy won't get a guaranteed start under Manning, no one will. But I expect him to get plenty of minutes in rotation with others this season, and I think that he can still have a big impact - and there's nothing in the interview with Manning that suggests otherwise.

I think it perfectly reasonable for the press to ask where a big earner is at the start of the season.

Manning showed signs of managing Murphy at the backend of last season, there is however no denying, that to this point, it looks like hugely misplaced money.

Assuming we are looking to add another left sided attacker of the Burey/Longman type, that leaves us with Mills, Goodrham, Browne, *possibly another*…Wildschut/Murphy.
