That's a bit of an exaggeration, the Romans left Britain 1640 years ago.Hmm. That sounds a bit KRish. Players falling for that would be about 2000 years old!

I had to do Latin at school in the late 60's so it would mean signing OAPs rather than ex prime ministers!Hmm. That sounds a bit KRish. Players falling for that would be about 2000 years old!
Someone I like a lot. Seen quite a bit of him live with Wales and he uses the ball well and I have said in the past he is someone we should have looked at when being continually loaned out while on Man It'd books. Would be a.very good signing IMO
One problem, we need physicality, Bates another 5 ft 2, sorry it’s a no from meIf the consensus is that we need to go back to young players with potential to generate profit but that can improve us in the here and now then I don't know how Bate can't be in the conversation. Once he found his rhythm he was head and shoulders above our other players, including a club legend in his position. My opinion of him is very high - I thought he was one of the best footballers I saw in L1 last season in his pomp. The injury curtailed what was a brilliant run of form and had he been able to finish the season that way, Leeds may be more reluctant to shift him.
As with any view I have on a player I do it with money as no object as I don’t know the budget or how far it will go. Common sense in all cases is that if any player soaks up the entirety of the budget or hampers us from wider improvements then forget it. But budget permitting, he’s a player I’d have back without a second thought, personally. And just to provoke an unpopular thought, should Brannagan move on or we get a good offer whereby we can remove a large wage burden, who better to step straight in than Lewis Bate. I’d rather have them all competing for the midfield slots but I’d be much more comfortable if Brannagan left with Bate already in the building.
There are other alternatives. The like of Archie Collins at Exeter is one I really hope we’re looking at. Dylan Levitt is another good shout. But just a general point I thought I’d make - Bate fits ‘the model’ in almost every way and fits nicely in the mould of being promotion standard now with large resale potential but equally, in the event we did go up, he’d make the jump to the championship with us. Anyone we can find in that space is exactly what we should be going for.
Brannagan one would presumeWho's the club legend?
Perhaps if transfers should be carried out in Latin and scribed on vellum we could attract a different type of player
Perhaps if George Baldock's hamstring were made out of vellum instead of papyrus, we wouldn't have to.
Personally I felt Bate had a few very decent games, but otherwise and on too many occasions, was not any better than what we already had in the building. Given we need much more physicality and presence in midfield and the combination of Bate, Mcguane and Bran didnt exactly have any of us purring with excitement or the opposition running for cover, I just don’t get why we’d want him back on biggish wages and probably for a fee.Are some of us forgetting how light on numbers we were last season?
We should have had 3-5 more professionals on our books, our bench was woefully light on many an occasion.
Lewis Bate, a year older, wiser and stronger, in a larger squad as a very viable option? Yes please!
I think we'd be very lucky to get him again.

Yes, absolutey agree a midfield of those 3 would show we’ve learned very little unless we go to a back 5 (even then, I wouldn’t have all 3 unless we are wild favourites).I agree that Bate is a very good player.
But the issue is the balance in the midfield. McGuane, Brannagan and Bate are all good players, but when did they click as a 3?
That is why, I suspect, people want to see something different from Bate.
I’d argue Cam goes close, personally. Perhaps i was a bit fast and loose with that but he’s been an immense contributor to a decent period for the club on the pitch.Who's the club legend?
Good job you need more than 3 or 4 midfielders in the squad then eh? If we signed Bate or a CDM now, we’d still need 2 more bodies in that area. Why not burst this horribly low ceiling we’ve been set with tragic recruitment and say we could do with both? Radical, I know. One problem, we need physicality, Bates another 5 ft 2, sorry it’s a no from me

A defensive midfielder, and an out and out striker is the most important signings we need to make this summer. We’ve missed that for a season or two now, the former definitely someone that mops up and senses danger. A player that can then put us on the front foot. Then someone that can finish off chances with alarming regularity.
Yep, budget is a consideration that I don’t really go in to as I don’t know the intricacies. If Bate’s signing would stop us spending another dime, forget it, at least until someone like Cam moves on. I accept that scenario might be why he isn’t on our radar. But is the benefit worth the cost (wages and transfer fee)? If Cam Bran was to be sold then I could see the point as they are similar in style imo. Also Bate isn't going to want to come here as a back up.
Likewise, he was brilliant and despite being an opposition player I too stood and applauded him.I'm going to mention two other brilliant performances in home games that stick in my mind - Georgi Kinkladze for Man City in the late 90s being the first. He strolled around exuding class, skill and vision and when the game finished, looked like he'd been for a stroll in the park.
The second was Aaron McLean for Grays in the Conference - the pace, skill and work-rate were exceptional and we knew we were watching someone who should be playing at a higher level. I wasn't the only home fan who warmly applauded when he was substituted near the end of a 1-1 draw .
