Good luck England!

I know you can only beat who you play but to date England were lucky vs Tunisia. Beat a Sunday pub team in Panama. Drew vs Columbia. Who had their best player out injured. And beat a solid but poor Sweden. Croatia will be exhausted emotionally and physically after the Russian game. So . I expect England to get to the final. Southgate is a lucky manager. Good for him.

Well if winning games against lower ranked international sides is so easy how come Scotland, Wales or the republic (whichever one of those you support) could not even qualify for the tournament?

How come Italy and the Dutch couldn’t get there, how come Germany, Spain, Portugal, Argentina etc all struggled against lesser opponents?

The bitterness coming off paddy’s, jocks and taffs is cranking up to new levels, if we win we should take the trophy on tour to the parts of the British isles that are s**t at football, everywhere but England, as it will be the only opportunity for you lot to ever see it.

Do lighten up ffs.. stop pouring negativity over everything..

We have got to the last 4 of the World Cup, something 28 other teams have failed to do.

And we beat Columbia didn’t we??? Much in the same way Croatia beat Russia ??

Something 206 other teams have failed to do, actually - there were 210 countries that started qualifying this cycle.

The World Cup, stating the bleeding obvious, is a cup. And while leagues are usually won by the best team, cups are won by the team that does what it needs to each game. Which is what England has done up to now.

I personally think we are going to win it with sterling finally scoring when we really need it !

Christ, cheer up fella!
The first games are always tricky, we scrapped past Tunisia but Belgium hardly blew away Panama. Even with a narrow victory we could have been comfortable before Tunisia got their penalty and were the only team looking to win. Panama were poor, but at every level these are sometimes the games in which people struggle. The first half was brutal and we could have hit double figures.
The Belgium game showed little, except that maybe Belgium wanted it more, but we always had an eye on the bottom half of the draw.
Colombia showed that we could battle against possibly the dirtiest team I have seen us play at any tournament. We could, and should have finished them off but still showed massive resolve to come through that and win the mind games of penalties.
Sweden were a decent side and we made them look poor. If Sterling could finish we could have easily been 4 up before Pickford pulled off some work does.
Croatia will be our toughest test, but it's a World Cup semis and we probably have our best chance since '66 to make it through to a tournament final. Then Belgium and France are both beatable without being a walk over.
Southgate has built a team without egos, without the usual 'golden generation' shite. Without player power from Terry, Rooney, Beckham etc. The whole country are getting behind the team and it feels bloody amazing!!
Stop being a grump and believe - it's coming home!!!
Think it’s harsh to use Beckham in the player power argument. Gave his all for his country and at times carried us singlehandledly.

Right, who plays in what kit on Wednesday? Croatia white and red check are the home team but England who are the away team play in white or red. Would we play in our white kit and Croatia in their change kit?

We are playing in all white on Wednesday. Official release from FIFA this morning

He did, but also was picked towards the end of his career when he wasn't able to have the same impact because he was the 'star player'. Too often we have put players before the team.

That’s not my recollection. Capello dropped him completely and we were appalling so he was recalled and we improved.

I thought they said their parents or a parent was Irish?

But he was born in England, my parents are Scots but I am English as I was born in England.

Anyhow we have been over this lots of times.

More importantly do you think there will be any changes or just stick to the same side?

I would have been tempted to play Loftus Cheek instead of Alli but I'm not sure he is any more solid after seeing his last couple of games. Probably start with the same side and hope that Sterling, Alli or Lingard have their shooting boots on to give us another dimension.

I'm sure it will be the same side, though I'd love to know what is keeping Young over Rose on the left hand side. I can understand the benefits of Sterling to some extent (in the same way I understood that Heskey was 'useful' despite his lack of goals), but Young hasn't really done much for me. Rose did really well against Colombia in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch.

Long as we don't try and sit in and be too defensive as as I think could be ripped to bits, we need to keep them on the back foot as much as possible.

I think that one of the reasons Young plays is due to his set piece delivery (his corner for Maguire's header).

In addition he may be defensively better then Rose although Rose is better going forwards (Rose's mistake in part for the Belgium goal).

Personally I would prefer to see Rose play but I kind of see why Southgate plays Young.

Ashley Young makes Joey Beauchamp look Harry Maguire when going in for headers. Danny Rose still has little clue how to defend and hasn't really got better recently - if it's not running around and cross, he ain't got a lot of interest in it

He'll stick to the same team. Hopefully Kane doesn't drop so deep in this game and Alli kicks on and gains confidence from the goal in the last game.
