It was Kassam, before he sold up to Merry.

Mick Brown was in the unfortunate position of being the club secretary who had to implement it.
I never knew that! I think Mick Brown gets routinely blamed for this, so it would be good for us Oxford United fans to recalibrate our collective consciousness! Another one to blame Kassam for!

Can't unfortunately make it now (gutted) but have two tickets if anyone wants them for face value. Think they may be posted tickets so can either post first class/next day signed!

If you don’t have any luck selling them here then the club are accepting returns as they have opened a waiting list

“The club is compiling a 'waiting list' for tickets that are returned before matchday. If you would like to go on the waiting list, or if you can no longer attend but would like a refund and for those tickets to be available for other fans then call 01865 337533”

These decisions are never one person or that simple. But OUFC got it wildly wrong nevertheless, and Mick Brown took the brunt of it as he was Club Secretary. And we can not blame Kassam (as some have suggested) on this occasion unless I am mistaken? Merry and Jim Smith come in a few games before? So, Mick Brown, I would have thought, would have played a key part in the decision-making, and influencing process, as would the new board members? We all make mistakes, but only Tory Cabinet Ministers can pretend they weren't part of the collective decision-making if it all goes wrong and the leader is subsequently deposed!

Sorry, but you're wrong.

I can categorically state that Kassam made the decision before he sold up. Orient asked the question, as they were going for their first promotion in 30 or so years, in early 2006. We were at that point mid table, and thought there was going to be nothing on the game for us, so Kassam saw the £££ signs. By the time Merry took over it was a fait accompli and Orient had sold most of the tickets.

Mick Brown had to do what his boss (Kassam) told him, and has unfairly been blamed for Kassam's decision ever since.

Colin - you may have some inside source - but did we really start selling Orient away tickets in late March, which again, I may be wrong, was when Merry and Co. bought the club? If it was, we were really efficient back then in terms of organising and starting ticket sales! Fair play to Orient too, that confident weeks before the end of the season.

It wasn't so much us starting to sell the tickets early (and it was way before the end of March), as Orient being pro-active in asking us if they could have the whole stand, to which Kassam said yes, and the rest, sadly for us, is history. The darkest day in my Oxford United watching life, and I'm sure Im not alone in that.

One thing we can definitely agree on - dark day. And we should have done more that day ourselves!

Cheers mate - gave them a call but have to return them in person to the ticket office. Something i'm going to find difficult being based in Brighton so if anyone wants them DM!

If I remember the North Stand had been closed to home fans for all or most of that season. It was only the takeover prompted it to be reopened to home fans , presumably on a match by match basis, and nobody envisaged a last game relegation. Or if they did, it was too late.
