Transfer News 2022/23 Season Incoming Transfers and a few other things

When have I ever claimed that the start of preseason is the absolute cut-off date for signings? Of course we'll be bringing players in, as no club ever gets all their business done before the first day of pre-season. But there's a big difference between not having all signings completed in time for pre-season vs none.

And judging by the interview Karl gave today, coupled with the reaction of a couple of ITKers, it hints that no secret players are ready to be announced for the Spain trip. Happy to be proven wrong though!
You didn’t suggest it was the cut off but you suggest it’s a major failure if this isn’t done. Ask any manager in the world, they’d love to have their squad in place with weeks ahead of them to knit it all together. That isn’t reality. And you can’t compare us to other clubs because we all have different financial constraints, a particular way of playing and an existing squad to build around - I.e. different gaps to fill.

Yes we could have signed Tucker, or Leigh, or Pack… but… what if we didn’t want to because they aren’t right for us? Haven’t we made enough expensive mistakes on players to understand why the club may use all the time available to them?

We got out the blocks pretty quickly last year despite a number of late signings. In an ideal world we make it a little easier on ourselves this year but this is life in the lower leagues, it doesn’t always go your way and we cannot continue to ignore despite the backing of new owners we will still operate within our means and that means 5 or 6 clubs minimum are offering more than we are.

I wonder if we showed any interest in Cundy. Seems to fit the profile of CB we recruit obvious previous links to the club. Played in back 3 for Bristol City at the end of last season. Young and comfortable on the ball. Looked solid VS us playing for Gillingham.
Done very well, when I watched him.
Atkinson seemed to be more comfortable playing alongside him

I really don't buy the thing about needing players in for pre-season so they can gel.
Last season we missed the playoffs because the players we had had at the club all season went on a run of getting 8 points from the final 8 games.
Missing out on lots of running in the hot weather is probably ideal for some players - I seem to remember Chris Maguire saying something, half joking, when he re-signed, that he had dragged it out a bit to avoid the hardest bit of pre-season training.

The promotion season from L2, we didn't sign Lundstram until midway through August, Buchel joined later than that and Maguire first rocked up in November.

KR has said enough in previous seasons for us to know that if he didn't feel he was getting the backing to bring in players that he wants, he wouldn't be hanging around.

Like myself I want players signed today, and understand the frustration when every so called div 1 side signing this and that.
Like us I’d think the players would like to get there tomorrow, and see some quality signings, would imagine it would give the whole sqaud a massive boost.
Anyway, however the club want to go about it’s business that’s upto them.

If he is going, what would be good is Burnley sign him for £2 million with 15% sell on, he plays fantastically well for them, with Spurs keeping checks on him and sign him for £10mill!
Accepted £1.8m, unsure on the add-ons though, there'll certainly be a few.

Sometimes we will be beaten by other clubs due to finances or the players personal desire to play in the championship for example. no matter how hard we try. I’m comfortable with that as it shows we’re going for players that clubs we want to be competing with are as well.
Were we beaten by mkd for Hollands return, or for B.Rivers latest signing who we were allegedly after
I would be surprised. Like most on here I would think that Oxford saw Holland as decent back up to Browne
Maybe he has joined MK with more chance of starting
Do you think that missing out on Holland is a big deal?
No probably not, as he was inconsistent. I am really worried, not panicking, about the interview this morning with KR, where he talked of only 5/6 players coming in, as 9 have already left, and we find ourselves a few games in, players injured and we don't have adequate replacements. Many Thanks for your civil replies to peoples posts.

Interesting signing for Peterborough. I identified him as someone that could be a good investment for a league team before Sutton were promoted from the National League.

Looking forward to seeing how he gets on.

They have done this before though. Wasn't Aaron Mclain one of 2 successes that came from non league years ago to Peterborough?

James Gibbons playing very well in a back 3 for port vale, usually a fullback. Few marauding runs forward looking good on the ball. Only 24 wouldn't mind him or someone similar. Bet he makes a daft mistake after a good start now!
Signed for Bristol Rovers! Vale fans pretty surprised by that one.

Fair play to them, we delve into the Irish leagues and find the likes of Gavin Whyte and Luke McNally.
Have no idea if he was on our radar or not, But Anthony Evans is the only one so far mentioned, that’s slipped by for me.

I can absolutely get where you're coming from, and whilst I'm not proclaiming it's the end of the world that we haven't gotten in the majority of our squad before the start of pre-season, it's more the fact we haven't gotten anyone. I totally get, and agree, that it's not as easy as some (including myself) would sometimes perceive it to be, but other League One clubs are making at least some signings by now. Why are we one of the few EFL clubs that hasn't yet? I'd like the club to at least acknowledge this and put better working practices in place to see recruitment improve and become more efficient. We were also very late in January too, so a pattern is emerging that needs rectifying.

I think in certain circumstances it pays to be patient, but this season the first game's on 30th July and the window closes on 1st September, by which we'll be at least 7 games into the new season. When fighting at the top every point counts, so whilst patience is a virtue, I feel like the club can - and should with the money we've got this season - be doing better with the timings of our recruitment. And for those that say 'wait until the window's over until you judge it', I don't think we need to wait for deadline day to assess the situation when over 10% of our season will be played before then.

Sorry, I was just saying that Peterborough have found gems in non league before. Im not sure who you mean was on our radar.

Maybe with the threat of only 12 months, he needs to get it right from the start.

4 months to get match fit? Really? Around 5 to 6 weeks from returning to training to the first game I believe so not quite sure who you think we are trying to sign!
Some of these players may well be training/ playing friendlies with other clubs.
Marcus McGuaine springs to mind

James Gibbons should he the kinf of player we hoovered up. Although maybe we did go on for him and couldn't afford him?

Fine, but have you read his vision from this mornings interview?
10 out 5/6 in? Two loans but nothing definite about perms.
But the Pina Coladas are fllowing fine.

Wednesday believed to be offering Michael Smith circa 12k a week whereas he was previously on circa 4k at Rotherham.
If we needed reminding of the differences amongst the budgets in this division, even those in the top 8 are massively different.

Really fancy Sheff Weds and Ipswich to get promoted. Already, both have done excellent transfer business and both have had a season (Ippy a couple!) to have a look at what is required to get out the division.
