Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

I think the logic is the retail park provide safe regular income and the Football club gives the potential to make a huge profit. You obviously have to get to the Premiership to realise it. But the retail park funds the speculative investment.
Was pretty much Mike Ashley's strategy.

So what are they in it for?
See @38yearsofpain for a simple response. Football is a gamble, but get it right and we could be another Leicester in 10 years. The stadium and surrounding income streams cover the cost of that gamble.

I'm not stupid enough to think that the board are in it for charity or because they're lifelong Oxford fans, but bring us a new, community ground that is offset by their other ventures and allows us to grow on the pitch, and I'll be happy!

Anyway, there's a whole thread for this stuff! On to the transfer business and our 4 new recruits!!!

It was John Hall's strategy, lever piles of money got from I don't remember where against St James' Park and pick up brown-field land in the Team Valley for next to nowt, where he engendered a retail park, early and competently.
He made money out of it, then he croaked and his son Douglas got it and fell in with the criminal (fat) Freddy Shepherd. Shite-show.

Ashley is just an evil cost-cutting bastard who's driven retail below any survivable level, as he'll soon discover. f**k him. The pig, the toad, the s**t.

Don't disagree but he used his retail empire to fund in the early years. When Premiership revenues exploded he kept the profit. But that strategy will make him multi millions when he sells it.
Never suggested he was ethical but it was the strategy he used.

What are you on about? John Hall is 83 and still breathing. He made money on the club but he put money in.

The walking turd bought Newcastle for an alleged 135m pounds. He's run it like he runs Sports Direct except when he wants to sell it, which is always once he realised burgers and free beer weren't a substitute for commitment (just like Slippery). His asking price has dropped from half a billion to 400m to 300. With Mrs Doubtfire in charge it might soon be worth the same as the House of Fraser.

Ashley has NEVER put money into Newcastle, he's taken out every season. He's a southron asset stripping piece of sh[/i]ite who's brought no good to anyone who's met him. Jump off the yacht with Maxwell you fat cunt.

Chill Winston, A&E resources are stretched. Never said he invested cash just said he used Sports Direct to reduce risk to buy. As a investment he has made a huge profit. Accept he had over the Toon Army and he may be a complete a**e and obviously hated by Newcastle fans.

As we head into the third week of January, having signed "checks notes" nobody, its all a bit embarassing really isnt it?
Embarrassing for the club no, embarrassing that Robinson still feels the need to put arbitrary deadlines on things that have proven to hardly ever become true then yes! As people rightly point out, transfers are hard to get over the line, so don’t set yourself up to fail by putting deadlines on things

Hopefully we bring in at least a CB and a winger to replace Clare, anyone else is a bonus

Why embarrassing?
As the pandemic goes on and more games are cancelled, there is a chance that the season won't end.
I believe that half of the teams are yet to make a signing.
With non league cancelled below NL North/ South I assume that there is a squeeze in so far as many more clubs will not be recruiting.
It appears that you are very easily embarrassed putting into context what is going on in the world.

The best CB in the league is already at the club.

Cameron Brannagan - Thank god for the eye hospital.

Well, a good start, we are both amused.

Since FK sold the club, every subsequent owner has announced their intention to own the stadium, perfectly logical to tie club and stadium together. So, ask yourself, why has that not happened? Did they all change their mind? Or, did FK refuse to sell it to anyone connected to the club? It's one thing to offer to buy, it's quite another when the owner refuses to sell.

I don't recall the board (current) stating categorically that they would like to buy, as an option perhaps, but not an intent. This board has made it clear that they are looking to establish the club in a new stadium complex.

Granted, your scepticism is not unfounded given what FK did to the club but, that was a choice made by the owners at that time, not by some underhand dealing by FK (although he probably was beside himself with glee at the stupidity of those involved)
Reflect on this, FK bought the club to gain access to land, a lot of land. Tiger has bought the club for a lot more than a quid and financed everything since. There is no land from which to make a profit, no site awaiting development and no assets from which to profit. He has brought in some very wealthy folk from his circle of friends to assist him in what appears to be a good plan for the club. It's not a repeat of Reading FC nor is it, in anyway at all, similar to what FK achieved. (unless you consider that without OUFC there is no need for a stadium)

So, all said and done, you would prefer the current board to buy the stadium and not take us to a brand new shiny stadium with modern facilities in case they do the same as FK and sell the club for a quid and retain all the property that they have paid for anyway, is that right? Not a very good argument.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Kassam didn’t want to sell the ground. Given the number of reasonable people who‘ve allegedly tried to buy it. After all his business model seems to be build it, lease it to someone. But then the club should come out and say so.

I think it is similar to what FK did here and what Tiger did at Reading. we’ll see but I bet if there were a new ground it would be a separate company to OUFC, then the surrounding businesses would be separated again.

Actually I would like the council to build us a stadium. Recognising what a great social asset OUFC is to the county. Or Tiger to build it under the OUFC company so we have an asset and further revenue. So if he walked away the club, stadium and all surrounding business would be owned by OUFC. But I doubt it will be so. Sadly.

Perhaps a bit cynical, but might be an especially good time to be looking at Non-League prospects, given their clubs' financial uncertainties currently. Wouldn't have to spend that much normally but possibly even cheaper now.

Personally, I think the play offs are looking unrealistic. Far from impossible and I think we *could* go pretty close, but just don't see us making it. Wouldn't mind recalling/buying + playing some youth prospects, make the most out of midtable mediocrity + getting ready for a push next season. Doesn't seem much point in bringing in loans now unless they're going to either be here next season or get us promotion.
