Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

I seriously doubt we'd be spending £1m even if we signed a couple for fees.
I put that figure as if we are buying Cadden I don't think less than £400,000 , add the same amount for a position we need ( LW/RW ) and a cheaper centre back and then wages ......

If this campaign is curtailed, it would act as quite a nice little practice season to get everyone up to speed and allowing Karl to learn that Sean Clare is not a sodding right back...

I'd support a 23 man squad, similar to those that international sides take to competitions.

Gives room for covering every position, plus one for good measure (possibly allowing for formations). Can see the rationale in terms of encouraging clubs to promote youths... but some clubs aren't set up for that either.

Oh god, I'm really torn this transfer window. Part of me wants to tweak things - with the priority being a physical centre back, but the other part wants to see Hall, Eastwood, Hanson, Sykes, Kelly, Mousinho and Osei Yaw leave the club and for us bring in 3 or 4 who will push us on.

With the Cadden thing, he isn't what I considered a priority a few weeks ago but Ive changed my mind. Having Cadden on the books allows us to do something we haven't been able to do so far - and thats to have an outlet springing forward from deep to get us out of the midfield chaos. One of the things I have noticed about us this season is that we look quite narrow and easy to press. Cadden gives any man with the ball a good option due to his mobility and instinct to go and stand on their left back - creating the overloads we need in order to win games. If its true that the Cam Brans, Kellys and Mcguanes have a good range of passing, its imperative we have individuals in the team who will allow them to demonstrate this, otherwise its pointless having them.

We've needed a good RB/LB pairing for about 5 years. If we get Obita settled and Cadden in- watch this space. We'll be transformed and we'll fly with this squad. Long and Ruffs are solid/dependable but only that really.

Long can be excellent defensively- the only way either of our side backs ever push beyond 'fine'.

As much as I'd love to have Cadden in, Long's goal last night proved he's a bit more than "fine" and arguably our player of the season this year so would be more than happy with him there. But I agree with posters that have said his best position is in centre back, where he can still take the ball out, has pace and can showcase his defensive capabilities.

I'm guessing that you missed Sam Long's goal yesterday? Or the way he ran the length of the pitch late against Wimbledon? The run and cross he put on the plate for Taylor against Swindon? Or the numerous other times he's got forward with real purpose since moving back to RB? Or the 60 yard diagonal balls out of the defence when playing CB?

I know I'm a full signed up member of the Sam Long fan club but he's been far from ordinary for the last 2 years, and fantastic this season.

Ultimately you want as many players as possible in your squad that opposition managers will set up to stop. Opposition teams probably aren’t going to be overly worried about Sam Longs effect on the game. During his time here though Cadden was causing serious problems for the opposition and they would set up to stop him effecting the game. We need as many of them players as possible.

I guess there’s an exception for league football, you’re not allowed to employ female players either. I think the squad cap will be challenged though
Makes sense when its to protect under 18s (age group youth football).

Sounds positively not what the exception was intended for after that

Is that true or is the reality that none of the ladies would cut it at League level? Genuine question. There are female officials after all.

Ha good question! I don’t think it’s allowed, the competition is for men, and the women’s one is for women. But it could be challenged in court I’m sure.

So we sign Cadden and we consign Long to the bench? That’s harsh

That’s a poor excuse

I suspect it’s not possible because the flip side if it was allowed is you’d have a lot of men who wanted a match fee taking up spaces in female squads to the detriment of their players.

Summer would've been the time to sign the posh players, can't see anyone too extravagant wanting to join a mid-table club in the current climate.
Not if the January signings are made with a view of next season. We brought in Atkinson last January and look what a key player he is now.

Not necessarily...Long has stepped up to the plate, and can play across the back line. Cadden is a really good player though who would help us achieve championship football.
