Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

For a player not playing in his natural position. I think Josh Ruffels does an excellent job. In fact I think he’s better than most LB’s in Lge One, and pops up with crucial goals. I’m not saying he doesn’t have flaws, but nearly every players does at this level, otherwise they’d be in the Lge above.

Surely he goes and gets 20 odd games for a Conference club? If we see him as the person to take over from Eastwood, then surely he should be "learning" out on loan with some games and experience under his belt. Last season, he wasn't even regularly playing in the few U23 games that were played.

Comparing v Owen Evans at Wigan who is the same age.
He's had 6 loan spells in the past few seasons stepping up a league/team on each time, to the extent where he made 37 appearances in L2 last season and has been linked with moves this summer.

A higher level comparison is Aaron Ramsdale. Signs for Bournemouth in Jan 2017. Doesn't feature at all, has loans at Chesterfield in L2 in 17/18 and then Wimbledon in L1 in 18/19 and then played all but 1 game in the Premier League last season.
Yes a loan would be beneficial and I'm sure Jack would be happy to take that on, I read it that he needs to leave to help his career which would be an almighty gamble.

I think if we loan Stevens out to a non league team we need to make sure he will be 1st choice at that team otherwise he will just be doing what he’s doing in our team warming a seat Could we do what Liverpool do and dictate the terms in the loan contract

I suppose the answer there might not be the quality of the player, but what type of player we want in that position? Ruffs is not a 'marauding forward' type player and if we are looking to play with very attacking wing backs then he isn't one. If the addition of Clare on the right of the defence is an indication, do we need a similar player on the left so we don't become very lop-sided? Having said that, I would be very sorry to see a set up where Ruffs wasn't included, I think he is a good player!
I dont think that we are.
I think that KR like MAPP likes one attacking quick full back and a more steadily defensive full back.
I dont think that his idea is to play with wing backs (I assume we will still play with a back 4)

Why? Why is another backup striker to Taylor such a priority (and I even agree it would be good to get one), but a secondary left back is such a waste?

Ruffels is our only specialist left back, and even he's a converted midfielder still learning the position to some extent. You could throw Atkinson or Elechi in there, but they're very unproven. Or Long, playing 90 minutes on his weaker foot.

You say Ruffels is a duplication of a left back, but a striker would be an improvement. Do you not have faith in Taylor? Or do you just feel it would be good to get someone just as capable in in case of long term injury?

Because in most games, a striker will be subbed off around 60-70-75 mins, to bring on fresh legs, and give the tiring defence something else to think about. That’s why backup strikers are so important, gives you another weapon in your armoury, often a pacy player to hit teams on the counter if you’re winning, or a wily old pro to hold up the ball and take the pressure off the defence. A good reserve striker will also sometimes he be used if the teams shape changes, with two up front being played for example, either at half time or before a game maybe.

The above rarely applies to a left back. They will often play every game they are fit, for 90 mins. Yes you need to someone to back them up in case of injury or suspension, but across a season where neither are injured, a backup striker will have a hell of a lot more minutes/impact/importance than a backup left back.

Agree with that, MAPP had Skarzy who wouldn't bomb forward as much, that allowed Baldock to push up, same as Ruffs allowing Cadden and hopefully Clare to push up

Do we think that's it for signings ahead of the EFL wage cap vote, or is KR working flat out trying to snap up some potential higher earner signings on this "mini deadline day" as he called it.
Seems rather quiet on the ITK / rumours front if it's the latter.

ECYellow is the only trusted ITK poster. The rest adapt rumours and hearsay as there own, and their guestimates as gospel coming from sources within the club.

It all depends who is played in front, a Fosu/Browne type of winger or a Henry . We do need to cover defence and I think actually adds balance to the side .

Henry was really off it in the playoffs (pass vs shot chance aside) he wasn't up to speed with the game and wasn't really impacting the games like he was when the team were on a roll. He has similar troubles at the start of last season, I hope he gets up to speed quickly and understands his defensive role (i.e tracking back / shielding the rb) is crucial and we could see the impact as sykes came on and played in front of sam long in the semi final second leg / final.

Yes it's obvious the trust isn't there for Stevens from KR. He needs a loan for his own sake. I think KR will always use the emergency loan or out of contract keeper facility.

Jack Payne looks like Maradona until you man mark him. Then he just looks like Madonna.

As long as it was in her Vogue / Erotica era and not Material Girl, I could live with signing Madonna. She scared the bejesus out of me then, so would probably do the same with most of the Division 3 strikers. Only problem - she's the only defender I can think of who would ALWAYS play Akinfenwa onside.

Are you thinking her projecting bosoms would play the opponent onside?

Given the disparity of physiques between our fan base and Ruffels I am surprised the club doesn’t try to market his work out regime, make a few quid out of out of shape fans trying and failing to gain that body.
Or maybe the club could pimp him out for gigilo services if we need to raise money for a new LB - strapline ‘hire Ruffs - f*ucking you to f*ck himself’ ?

I can see the PFA using all their powers to drag this one out. Probably a court challenge coming if the EFL try to push it through quickly.

They’d better get moving then as it has been voted in with immediate effect.

Salary Cap has been voted for by L1 and L2 clubs.
