Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

Yo
Should’ve spent the money on Cadden, who was always guaranteed a profit 12-18 months down the line and would probably have been the difference between automatic promotion and what happened. Outside of Trent he created more big chances than any other RB in the country - he was an enormous loss. I’m glad there is intent this summer, but I hope it isn’t too reactive to missed opportunities / past mistakes. Spending is fantastic, but it needs to be measured and not desperate. I personally don’t want someone like Grigg as I think he’s a busted flush and would be too reactionary a signing, but I guess we’ll see and soon at that.

As an aside, Brentford ballsing up last night cost us about a million quid in lost bonuses. Ideally we would’ve seen them get automatic promotion and Cardiff win the playoffs (Whyte), but hopefully one of them wins through and we see some extra wonga as a result.
You think we blew it? My god, Brentford and Forest

I'm sure that ec yellow works behind the scenes, but in a fairly junior position. Many of these places have been stripped back during the pandemic and it may be a few weeks before the club is running anywhere near normal again before they are able to share their insight.

I believe @Shosho is a scout? So I take his posts seriously, and there are another couple who clearly know a little of what's going on. I hear things myself that hint at the way things are going, but rarely specifics until deals are very close. Some believe what I say, some don't (and are not afraid to say so!!!). But as I said before, I believe that we will all be happy with the signings we make, no matter who gets the ITK scoops on here!!!

Not quite a scout but am now working in football recruitment. Will hear bits and bobs!

I'd take Grigg over Browne any day of the week. Browne is undoubtedly a very talented and technically skilled player, but in my opinion isn't enough of a team player and blows far too hot and cold. On far too many occasions he takes a weak long shot and goes for individual glory when he has better options to pass. He can be unplayable at times and can tear teams apart, but all too often he goes missing during games. He lacks consistency. I'd take him on an average contract, but no way would I break the bank for him.

Browne has far more resale value than Grigg, loads more likelihood of developing, can play in more positions thus offering more versatility in a small squad and has performed well in League 1 more recently than Grigg has. I’d like both, but if it was a choice of one or the other on a permanent deal I’d take Browne every day of the week and twice on Sundays

it does make me laugh this "we are really going for it this season" as oppossed to what exactly? So when an opportunity was staring us in the face shrewd businessmen would know those opportunities rarely come along very often and that was the time to "Go For it" yet here we are a few months later with little prospect of income and we're back to starting from scratch and these same shrewd businessmen decide now we're going for it.

As for Grigg was going to sign until the last minute, i pointed out at the time it was bullshi* as when all these talks were allegedly being finalised he was having talks with Tranmere along with Charlie Kirk and 1 other.

Browne and Taylor, every day. I agree. I don't get the Grigg hype. All of this tosh about him being in a bad Sunderland team is just deflecting from the crux of the issue - he doesn't score goals. Sunderland aren't exactly Mansfield so I don't buy that. If you are quality, you will always be a danger. 5 goals in 20-odd appearances, across all competitions. That is objectively poor, no matter how you spin it.

i think if you look at their tactical approach certainly before Parkinson joined them, they were more adopting a 1-0 will do approach and drew games more to do with this than missed chances.

That patently isn't true. He has scored 101 goals in 298 L1 games over his career and scored 22 in 50 appearances at MK Dons under KR.

He was bad last season as were Sunderland considering their resources but to say he doesn't score goals is tosh based on his record in our division. Sunderland don't use him in the right way which can affect any player. Wigan certainly did use him in L1 in the correct way (19 in 43 L1 games in 2017/18).

That said I'd prefer Browne and Taylor signed before Will Grigg.

90 minutes in a game. 2250 minutes played. 5 goals scored.

Not good enough, whatever system you play in.

I will be spitting feathers if we blow our budget on Grigg.

that's better stats than Mackie sorry had to put that out there everyone knows I dislike Mackie as a player he is a notch up from shambolic & obika is one above that :)

He's had a bad season but was great for Wigan. If he scored 20 for us next season you'd love him, esp if Taylor's fitness is dubious.
Thats a fair point but is he worth the money? Taylor scored 20 goals for us this year and was injured or unfit for periods at a time so given a choice, it would be Taylor all day long. Knows the club, the squad, the system, the fans. No brainer.
