It’s not a rivalry because there is no history. Rivalries grow after years of events good bad and ugly. That’s why Reading is a rivalry even though we haven’t played them for years. To me rivalry needs that edge, even an unsavoury edge, which just isn’t there with Wycombe. Pompey are more of a rivalry because of the history. Having said all that they might become rivals in the future. COYY

Imagine Reading if Wycombe go up.

Wycombe: "Hello Reading! It is us, your fiercest rivals! Are you ready for some bitter derby games?"

My problem with the stats are that they draw conclusions based entirely on who starts a game, rather than looking at what happens when either player is on the pitch.

For example, Taylor could come onto the pitch in the 75th minute with us 3-0 down. He could score 4 goals in an inspiring fight back and that table would register it as proof that Mackie should start instead of Taylor. Or the opposite could happen. Taylor could leave the game in the 33rd minute with Oxford 1-0 up, Bristol Rovers could score 3 goals when Mackie is on the pitch, and the stats would show that we shouldn't be starting Taylor.

As I went way too deep into the numbers looking at this last week, I'll keep it at a very high level here (I would prefer to look forwards right now anyway). We score (approximately) every 70 minutes with Mackie on the pitch, and every 50 minutes without him. That is 0.5 goals difference per 90 minutes, which is a big difference.
The stats don't tell the whole story, but the narrative on here is Mackie is completely useless and a waste of match time, etc as he contributes nothing to the team. The stats show that it's not the case and far from it, especially from a team wide perspective.

Of course, the missing part in the analysis is what other players scored more/less with Mackie or Taylor up top.

I’m strangely more confident today than I have been all week

We must NOT give away cheap free-kicks tonight. If we can match their work ethic, get on the ball and pass it
we could do very well. We must move the ball quickly though.

Their main threats are set-plays from Jacobson, Onyedinma has quick feet and Wheeler is deceptively good in the air.
Interesting to see if Bloomfield plays ( he did his groin last Monday ) or whether Thompson starts.

A great opportunity for either team to get into the Championship. Let's hope it's the U's!

quite right too he is a waste of a wage no stat you could throw at me will ever change my mind!
what your saying is when Mackie plays other players score more..........
that is because they are doing what they are paid to do

mackies goals and assists for the season please?

anyway we will get promoted tonight so happy days

Well I hardly slept last night - had that nervous energy and a slightly sick feeling in my stomach. All of the dreams I can recall were play-off related with the last one involving me running with Karl Robinson on the Wembley pitch holding aloft a trophy...……….?

34 years ago today Freddy Mercury stepped out at Wembley in a yellow top with a full white kit underneath, won and wowed the crowd. Omen.

So, who's gonna make the headlines tomorrow and make sure I don't get a sheer heart attack?

We've lost so many of the old guard this season. Fans, former players and managers alike. They will all be watching over us.

It would be amazing to reach "Division Two" in the season we said goodbye to Jim Smith (managed us out of Division Three in 1984) and John Shuker (played in the Division Three promotion team of 1968).

Or even 35 years ago, Live Aid was 1985 wasn't it?
