Potential New Ground

Interesting if true, but hardly surprising.

In reality the club have 4 options open to them.

1. Re-new 25 year lease with or without alterations to lease conditions.
2. Identify site, obtain planning permission & build new stadium.
3. Buy current stadium with or without adjoining land.
4. Run down current lease and ground share with WWFC/MKD.

Option 4 would be a slow death for the club. Must never be allowed to happen.
Option 3 If you are correct, not going to happen. Kassam also refused to sell to Eales, so hardly surprising.

That leaves options 1 & 2.

Option 2 the most desirable.
Option 1 the most likely.
Option 2 ongoing. Won't hear much until local authorities agree planning outlines in principle.

a new 25 year lease with attitudes towards our tenure from both parties could see us also fold.

no chance would OUFC ground share with Wyscumb/MKD.

So the only real option would be to buy the ground and redevelop unless we get the investment and buy the whole ie Ozone the ground and the holiday inn express or whatever it’s called.

^^^^^ this.

This has probably already been covered and determined not feasible...

Nothing seems to have happened with BMW expanding its plant onto the old training ground since the club moved out nearly 2 years ago. With a combination of Brexit and the confirmed end date for combustion engines is it possible that they will not expand the site and run electric productions on existing lines/footprint of the building. The old training ground looks to be circa 12 acres in size.

The good aspects would be stadium adjoining training ground, access to parking for match days, a little bit more central. You could develop a hotel, conferencing and potentially even partner with BMW on stadium sponsorship, a larger Mini visitor experience, showroom etc

BMW won’t get involved with sponsorship

But we haven’t selected an area for a new ground

Until a planning application / screening option has been submitted to the relevant council you won't find out where it is. Been told this year sometime it will go in.

We need to forget about the £13m price tag for the Kassam. That went off the table years ago once FK realised that there was a significant opportunity to develop the site for housing. A more realistic figure would be around £25m+ for a tatty old stadium in need of development and without the additional revenue streams that would be needed to cover the costs of running a football club.

So, as @Yellow River has said, we are left with two real options.

Build a purpose built multi-usage stadium, with hotel, leisure/retail facilities, conference centre, giving the club full control over matchday revenue and paying a peppercorn rent etc., whilst allowing the investors to benefit from all supplementary revenue (which would be significant).

Or, maintain the status quo with a lease agreement that may be improved to give a slightly better deal but will ultimately leave us needing to sell a couple of players per season to be sustainable.

I understand the reservations people have with building a new stadium, and how that seems to be miles away from our day to day operations, but the 'big hitters' on the board are not here for a long term lease deal. And whilst there continues to be nothing coming from the board, that really doesn't mean that nothing is happening. With everything that has happened in recent months it would have been easy for the board to have come out with a statement that showed their work to date on stadium issues, but they have maintained professional confidentialities, which may be frustrating, but actually shows how seriously this is being taken.

I want to know how Pompey and Blackpool were able to use the courts to force their owners to sell and whether we could, and how the hell can the scum be told you need a million to by the county ground?

Whatever we think of FK, he is complying with the terms of the lease that was agreed and has absolutely no obligation to sell to us, especially at a level far below market value. I don't know enough about other clubs, but you can't take someone to court just because you don't like them!

I believe the board have identified a site but are keeping tight lipped on where this is. Source has come from a well known sponsor where there was a meeting to discuss sponsorship of the new ground . I can't remember the exact length we have left on the current lease but the plan is to have the current stadium ready just in time for when the lease runs out so we don't have to renegotiate a temporary lease.

Oh I do understand that but Pompey and Blackpool took their owners to court and forced their sale, a bit of a long shot but with what he’s charging and preventing us doing is that not him causing a restraint of trade.?

And if we had to renegotiate a temporary lease OGB could make it very difficult and expensive.
Regarding a new stadium could we apply for help through the FA like other clubs seem to do?

Hopefully it doesn't come to that, aslong as the planning is in place a year before the lease runs out then the new stadium could be built in that time. The reason nothing has really moved on currently is we still have to run that lease out at the kassam and would make no sense having a stadium built and paying for both. Maybe a temporary ground share if the stadium is not complete when the lease runs out.

Or just play our games at the training ground for a season. ?
