National News Extinction "Rebellion"

One could even argue that people who have the means to be able to take time off work to protest have a duty to the rest of us to do such a thing. Targeting the underground is as stupid as it gets and ER know that, but they can't control everyone. It's a shame because the majority behave themselves but a small minority now give food to those trying to discredit and vilify. Like football fans.

I don’t know why when they chain themselves to railings the police just don't leave them there.
To free them, charge them the going rate for contacting the fire brigade, payment by card machine.

And that is exactly the point. The vast majority are normal, generally law abiding members of society who are (whether you agree with them or not) concerned about the environment and world governments' lack of movement on climate change. Of course the media focus on the 'dramatic' rather than the bulk of the protests because its more newsworthy. And that suits the deniers and those who would stand to lose from tighter environmental controls.
It's just a way of focusing on the minutiae rather than the actual issues. Big business and government 101.
Exactly right, the media will always feature the more extreme elements, whether that's Johnson's 'crusties' or the mime artist types. I went along to Trafalgar Square on the second day of the protest to see for myself, all ages were represented, many had a 'hippy' look about them but the vast majority looked like they could have been attending a home counties rambling club event.

Having said that I believe they've shot themselves in the foot with a the east London tube protests and lost a lot of goodwill from ordinary members of the public.

What I really object to is people treating them as 'the enemy' branding them as unwashed layabouts, I'm sure many of the people I saw were retired and many more had taken time of work to attend, and as for the personal hygiene issues I didn't encounter anyone who smelt bad as I walked amongst them

Extinction Rebellion, a cause not to be sniffed at ;)

Don't get that either
tongue in cheek comment @Oxford Aesthete ;)

you mentioned in your post , Quote " as for the personal hygiene issues I didn't encounter anyone who smelt bad "
my 'tongue in cheek' response to that being : ' Extinction Rebellion, a cause not to be sniffed at;)'

intended to be mildy amusing, a bit like a joke, but not quite as funny:sneaky:

( even less so after explaining it! )

Sorry I thought it was a cocaine reference and I hadn't mentioned drugs!

Everyone realises that for a protest to be effective you actually have to P**s people off, right? If no one is inconvenienced, no one notices. The fact that a bunch of people on here are complaining about it and are a little bit triggered by the demographics of the protestors is probably a good sign for how the protest is going!

I don`t think any of the several thousand people who were using a form of mass transit to get to work/home etc will give a tuppenny toss about XR then, now or in the future.

Yep. But if even one person stops to to consider that maybe their personal inconvenience is less important than the future of the planet, has it all been worthwhile?

One person at a time and all that.

The consumer will still want to consume........... same as all those virtue signalling protestors....all consumers.

Does anybody know how the extinction rebellion protests are going in the US, China, Brazil, India?
