National News Extinction "Rebellion"

Hmmm, I may lose some money, or the planet may change forever and potentially displace millions...

Is there any view against climate change that doesn't involve money?
But it acknowledges there is only limited time, resource and money that one has to do anything, and a realisation that as a wider society, the priorities we personally think are the biggest, aren't necessarily the biggest.

The thing with money is the eye watering amounts that we hope will resolve the issue vs the other endemic societal issues we have that need fixing too. You and I can afford to pay a little more tax, for those struggling to get by, their priorities will be different. And rightly so.

And for all those delayed there will be meals being kept warm or binned in favour of a takeaway thus increasing the use of gas/electric. Public transport will be delayed leaving vehicles pumping out more fumes on idle. Emergency services will be affected with, possibly, consequences for those in need of transport by ambulance or assistance from fire/police.
Am I going to be even more aware of climate change/the environment/imminent extinction? Am I B*****s. I am just going to be even more convinced that there are a bunch of idiots running around determined to upset as many of us as possible.

And yet you are all talking about it.

No, I'm not. I'm complaining about a bunch of apparently deluded people who have taken upon themselves to behave in a manner which I find irritating and disruptive. Their motives seemingly clouded in hyperbole and represented by "spokespeople" who lack the ability to communicate in any manner other than using tactics of scaremongering. I lost any interest in their cause long ago. I just wish they would go away.

Do people genuinely dispute the fact that there is limited time to avert what is likely to be huge issues for the planet?
Trump and the US oil Companies drag out the odd scientists who disbelieve it all, but my understanding is that the vast majority of scientists are pretty together in their views?

Do you really think that the ecological cost of reheating a few meals is actually worse that letting those with a vested interest just keep on as they have?
Of course the point is that it *is* annoying - and just think about how much worse and more annoying your life will be if even the less extreme predictions of climate change come to pass!

Yes you are by commenting on a thread that is about it and it includes people discussing the environment. Furthermore, this will be replicated in the media, on other forums etc etc.

Who are these "with a vested interest" you mention?

I am also aware of climate change and the potential harm, sadly you have missed my point.

What started out as a well meant protest by folk apprehensive about the future has become a band wagon for all sorts to jump onto. How long before the anarchist element joins in? How long before the so called peaceful protest becomes less peaceful?
If these people continue to antagonise then, at some point in time, someone will take the law into their own hands.

I can't help but feel environmentalists have fallen into a Boy Who Called Wolf scenario and do not understand that if you keep saying Wolf and nothing bad happens, people will stop listening to you. My feeling is a big majority of people understand we need to look after this planet a lot better, but are fed up of the every 10 years the ice caps will be gone, oil run out, etc etc. We aren't stupid.

Erm yeah, I think anyone who chooses to believe that 'environmentalists' say "every 10 years the ice caps will be gone, oil run out, etc etc." is actually pretty stupid.

What is it with Brexiteers and thinly veiled threats of violence?

Apparently the climate emergency isn’t going to affect Essex. And even if the concerns expressed by many scientists -about rising sea levels were justified mountainous Essex won’t be affected..
