watching on Ifollow

I watch ifollow here in sw france most weeks ... when im not stuck in the cellar only ever had one drop out but that, was an internet problem I find it very good. Used to use english bank account without a problem ...now use foreign account due to exchange rate etc

I would not be without it ! Here in Spain its very good, even via the WIFI. Better with the commentary this season. Rosy and Co make my Saturday afternoon here especially when we win! I feel still very much in touch with the Club even though I have not been to a home or away game now for 6 years after being a North Stander Season ticket holder for ever! :(

6 years?!...I'll have a cider please.

You raise a very valid point about having paid to watch the game live, yet being unable to even pay extra to watch it while temporarily abroad. There are plenty of grey areas with on demand culture making its way into football, and from experience they won’t be in a hurry to iron out the creases. Football, much like music (my industry of profession) is too arrogant and complacent to believe it needs to move forward, let alone with urgency and purpose. It’ll likely just sit and stagnate for a good while yet, resting on its laurels until someone else comes along and sorts out the problems down the line. This is what happened when Apple - a hardware manufacturer - had to invent the iPod and in turn iTunes to save the music industry’s bacon, because one day people realised you could just rip the music files from CDs and spread them around. The music industry could’ve owned its own hardware and delivery platforms, but was lazy and let someone else figure it out right as the whole thing wobbled on the brink of collapse. It then did it again with Spotify - a software company - who figured out that they could essentially take the existing method of iTunes and turn it into an open library in return for a monthly subscription. Again, the industry itself could’ve done that, but was lazy and complacent, run by buffoons who were too busy dining out and flying first class on the company card to do their jobs. Football operates the same way.

I’ve rambled. Anyhow, there is certainly something in what you say, not only in the sense that there’s no real reason for a one off stream from abroad to be so unobtainable or problematic, but that if the technology exists then there should be something in the fact that people who have paid for a seat but can’t attend have the right to access that match. It won’t be cut and dried, but even if it were, don’t bank on the powers that be to look for the solution, let alone find and implement it. They’ll wait for someone else to do that, but only when they’re should deep in s**t.
Expanding my thought process on the season ticket/streaming subject is spot on. Would make perfect sense for the club as they can increase income and, potentially, lock in another subscriber. We go to quite a few away games but still have an annual/season subscription to iFollow, in essence paying over the top for what we actually use.
I was about to suggest having a word with Chris Williams about taking the idea forward but, knowing what a low tech system is already in use and, knowing that there would be a very low probability of finance, it would go nowhere.
Video quality from the club is low as it stands, the whole shebang falling on Chris' head - quite literally a one man show.
Just wish I had the tech know how myself, would really give me an incentive to retire and apply myself to something that might be worthwhile!

I'm now living up in Preston so have been using iFollow to watch the home games. No drop outs for me.

Email from Chris Williams this morning, he's on the case with the EFL. Should, hopefully, see at least a change to the wording on the website to make it clearer as to who, what and when etc can watch/purchase a match pass.

I'd rather have people on seats than offer incentives to those prepared to pay premium prices to watch the game online.

The club and ifollow databases will be owned by different companies and will need permission from each individual to share between the companies. This will present a load of problems... I have at least 2 fan numbers possibly more and my email address is linked to at least two other fan numbers.

Call me a Luddite but I don't think it is good for football to be encouraging the 'Spotifysation' of football entertainment where artists receive a pittance compared to the record companies that use and abuse them.

Football will be shite to watch on telly without a crowd present whatever price you pay.

Again, a good argument and yes, agree, if we all stayed home it would be a very tame affair but, I think it's why many of us buy a season ticket in the first place, the atmosphere of the day out and the collective spirit.
Further update from Chris that really means any further discussion is pointless, the Saturday games are protected and will not be available to stream. Tuesday games are it, for the time being.

Turn any goal notifications off if you have any! Mine was a few seconds behind in the Burton game. Not quite the same watching ‘live’ when you know what’s going to happen.

I've seen the 80% figure but I think it was 'of the profit' so its all a bit vague. NMcW surely should be able to tell us, to the penny, how much the club get of the £10.

seriously considering treating myself to a matchday pass for Bolton but not sure of the technology side of it.
got iphone se but small screen, and ipad which is 7 years old and unable to do software updates.
i’m on 3 network and use phone as hotspot thingy to connect ipad to interweb.
so...... will an old ipad on phone data be able to handle it??

i would say £10 to watch "your" team is a bargain and far better than paying the likes of Sky for stuff you never watch

I'm going to try watching on my ps4.. hopefully that works?

Unsure if it work on PS4, try logging in and watching highlights first before trying to buy anything. If you have a laptop I'd imagine you could connect a HDMI from that to the TV though.

I’ve just signed up for the Bolton game for £5 whilst in Croatia, so does anyone know if I’ll actually be able to watch the game? Didn’t seem to get any issues and am able to watch pre match videos etc?
