Half fit? He doesn’t even make the bench today. on Thursday they said that he would get 30 mins today if he came through training. I assume he didn’t.

Oxford nil.

@Scotchegg I can see from your posts that you don't like any criticism of the mighty yellows or KR. So you'll always try to put a positive SPIN on things and I admire that. But it simply has not been very quiet in league one this summer.

144 players signed so far and I suspect those in the top half are only looking for one or two more players. That means their squads are all but complete and they're working on the technical and personal. Looking at that table I would also say that Sunderland, Lincoln and maybe even Burton are not looking for many more given their squads from last season.

The fact is the club said they had learnt from the mistakes of last summer, the same as each time we had a court order they said it won't happen again! But all the evidence suggests that we're in exactly the same boat. I would argue there's more evidence to suggest something aint quite right than all is well.

I agree we have a solid core, perhaps stronger than the core we had last summer. But we're very very weak in depth. Take the kids out and our squad is worryingly low on numbers. Most if any of them are good enough to be thrown into league one for any period.

I actually don't think it's about when they sign more about the quality when they do. Too many of our signings last summer were absolute flops. And not even here anymore! Maybe that was because we chased and chased players who were out of our league and were left with the dross?

There is a lot of work to do and given last summer I can fully understand the fans concern right now.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. I didn't think the rest of the league was that quiet.

Looking at the line up today, if things don't change soon it's a relief that Bury and Bolton are skint. The lack of a left sided centre half and striker is alarming to say the least. So fed up with all the BS out of Robinson's mouth.

I suppose the other side of the coin would be another list showing how many regular first team players each club has lost since the end of last season. I'm a great believer in continuity and only signing three of four players wouldn't be a bad thing for a club if they'd kept the vast majority of their team and those three or four were either direct replacements or upgrades for the leavers.

No one is denying concerns about recruitment, but it's about putting it into perspective. IF we signed Cadden, Evans and an experienced centre back on Monday then we'd look to have a very decent squad. IF we added to that with 3 or 4 loanees from higher up the pyramid then we'd look very strong.

It is about getting the right players in on the best possible deals, and that takes time. There becomes a point when you have to look at other targets, but we have to ensure we do everything possible to get the players that will take us to the next level.

I will make my judgements on the team that lines up against Sunderland and the squad that we have in September. I don't think either will disappoint.

If, if and but, doesn't get players over the line though, neither does the constant mention of "48 hours" or "busy week."

Even if players do sign that have had a good pre-season, they will still need a few weeks to understand the role kr wants them to fit into and get used to how other team members play.

Not if they're professional!!!

Centre backs need to know who to pick up at set pieces and whether to sit on or go out to cover for full backs etc. That can be picked up in a training session or 2. Centre forwards need to know whether they are playing on the last man's shoulder, sitting deep, holding play up, going long etc. An experienced player will be able to fit in very quickly.

Don’t let Scotchegg hear you.

Reply to the positive fairy:

Just like the start of last season.

BTW, your assumption that the manager knows what he wants may be a touch generous.

Thanks - I think that's useful.

So Coventry and Rotherham had a lot of leavers, but have signed a lot of players.
Portsmouth, Peterborough and Blackpool look to have strengthened squad depth significantly.
Bolton and Bury are going to be playing Doris the tea lady up front (if she hasn't moved to make tea for Plymouth)

Take both together and we are lagging.

But if you look at our chart, the big segment missing is Nelson, and looks like it represents about 12-15%. So if we'd kept him, we'd be 2nd or 3rd in that chart.

Looks like half the clubs in division lost at least one of their top 3 players this summer, in terms of minutes played.

Ipswich, Bristol Rovers and Coventry in particular seem to have lost their most regular squad members.

That's not very impressive. You should take a lead from the positive fairy, he could put a spell on you.

Well yes, but we didn't!
And you can also say that Sinclair (who was probably the best of the out and out strikers) would show as a smaller segment than he warranted because he only arrived in January, or that some of Mousinho's segment represents a mixture of him playing at the back (where he was ineffective) and midfield (where he made a difference).
I'm sure similar 'special pleading' could be made by every club. But the fact remains that have lost a lot of experience and haven't replaced it yet (I'm hoping that 'yet' is the operative word!).
