I’d like Evans to sign but either permanently or on a year long loan, with no recall. 6 month deals are distracting and of little value to OUFC.
I agree, I know we have to accept that short term loans are a way of life for lower league clubs these days but I’ll be disappointed if we’re going down that route for such an important position in the team. To me it’ll indicate that we’ve admitted defeat in our ability to sign a striker permanently. IF the rumours are true, we could have both Cadden and Evans here until January and then disappearing leaving us needing to rebuild again. And how committed are they going to be knowing they’re only here for a few months?

I accept this is just my opinion and a lot of people have no problem with short term loans however. Football is all about opinions ?

6 month loan for Evans because of his wages. I guess as he is no use to Sheffield United we would have to pay a large chunk.

So as it stands it appears that, if reports have any truth, we’re going down the route of shelling out half a million on a CB while bringing in a CF on a six month loan. That would make it very clear where our priorities seem to lie. I wonder if it would be best to go for two players worth 200 - 250k each rather than possibly blowing our budget on the defender? Again, it’s only conjecture as things stand, but just wondered what other people’s thoughts on it are?

Apart from Findlay being a decent player. I believe that the reason we're willing to pay a decent fee is to recoup any future sales fee.

He's a decent age and likely to continue to be a full international, albeit for Scotland [emoji846].

Our recruitment team have been good at pinpointing decent centre halves in the past. Both Mawson and Lindsey being missed out on and then bringing home the bacon for Barnsley.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sunderland or again Barnsley try to gazzump us now that it's common knowledge.

I'm guessing that Evans still has a year left on his contract at Sheffield United. Therefore it's possible that we could agree a try before you buy deal where we have him on loan for 6 months with the intention of a permanent deal in January. If this frees up more of the budget to go big on a centre back then that has to be a good thing.

Also, if we are looking at a loan deal for Cadden then we might only lose him for the last few games but save £200k+ on the compensation fee. Not ideal, but also pretty good use of our finances if we spend elsewhere.

There is financial fair play to consider and we have to shop well. It seems bizarre that we're talking about spending half a million on a defender, bringing in an established league 1/championship striker and a young player valued much higher than the £200k compo deal, and some are still fretting over the t's and c's of each deal!

How would that work? I think loans have to run from Aug to Jan and Jan to End of Season. He can’t leave in March when their season starts and they would surely want him back for PST.

If it is a loan, he turned us down and we should move on to players that want to play for us.

In a perfect world maybe it would be better to go for two £250k players than one £500k and a loan, but maybe we haven’t identified a great CB and a ST at that price, whereas if there’s a £500k deal for a player available who’s excellent, has resale value etc I think we should just go for it? Rather than think it doesn’t fit exactly what we’re going to do.

so a player that may come on loan is not committed but others that continue to use our club to further their careers are?

Are we really at a stage of welcoming players and then thinking how much we may sell them for !

At least we will keep Cadden fit for his eventual move to the MLS. If that's actually the case and Columbus sign him, then the lad did turn us down and is using us - and Crew are using us, to keep their player fit. Good player he may be, not productive to OUFC if he cocks off in January. That's not building a squad. Sorry if that's negative - happy to delete my account though.............

Ched Evans - I'm quite excited about. But again a six month loan? Beggers can't be choosers, eh?

The CB from Scotland, fair play, big money but it's been put out in the media once more and that isn't good for OUFC. Thankfully, it appears we have back-up options which is reassuring.

Super.

Right, heres a hypothesis. Say both Evans and Cadden sign on six-month loans, yet in the time whilst they're playing for us they propel us up the table, making us an attractive club to join in January. Signing both for the short term isn't ideal, but there is scope for Evans signing for longer as League One is probably his level, and it's not like Cadden will be slacking off if he signs for us.

let's hope the fans don't view it that way or the stands will be empty until jan.:)

We are a club aspiring to reach the championship, if it's a case of we can only afford them for 6 months then how do we afford beyond that? if it's what the player prefers then look elsewhere...all this rebuilding every 6/12 months is partly down to why we've struggled for 2 seasons.
