Yes a low risk low cost signing with a extremely capable Sam Long still around, we need another r/b as hansen will be challenging for centre mid
Don’t get me wrong I think Sam long did a excellent job but with our type of play we need a much more attacking RB

I would say we were in promotion form in the dozen or so games Sam played in and he was a part of that.
Yes we can and always should look to improve and I'd be hoping we could pick up a quality player without spending big bucks.
We still need centre backs, Holding mid , centre forwards and wide players so that is where our budget will be spent rather than R/B.

My opinion for what it is worth is it is worth splashing some cash on an attacking full back. The game is evolving, so much so that full backs are essential. We definitely need at least one. Baldock showed how effective just one attacking FB can be and then Skarz just held back allowing him more freedom as we had a back three when Baldock was advanced.

Look at Liverpool and Man City. Their full backs offer so much forward momentum and with all respect to Ruffles and Long they do not offer that forward threat. We aren’t looking for another LB so for me a forward thinking RB is worth the money.

I agree but if we can pick up a player with those attributes in the mould of a Cam Bran then lets do it.
Also without goalscoring forwards/attackers or solid centre back/ centre mid an attacking
r/b is a luxury.

Sam Long was pretty good going forward towards the end of last season I felt?

We had Cam Norman who was definitely a threat going forwards (though a bit poor defensively), and he didn't stay in KR's plans for long.

I don't think we have much of an issue in creating chances. We need an attacker prepared to make the intelligent runs though.

Attacking full backs aren't an evolution of the game, they have been important since, well, the 1980s (Mcdonald, Langan for instance) vital your fullbacks can offer a threat as well as the obvious need to be solid defensively.

The PL, especially Man City and Liverpool, are a world away from where we are. At this level we need players who are, first and foremost, strong in their own position. Everything else is a bonus.

It's no coincidence that we looked a much better side when we had Long and Ruffels at full back doing the simple things well. Eastwood was solid, Dickie and Nelson made less mistakes because they could focus on their jobs rather than trying to fill in for others. Kashi doing the dirty work, Brannagan able to influence more going forward. Sinclair/Mackie chasing down each ball, hassling defences. Creating pressure and space for Whyte, Browne, Sykes to play in.

At it's not like Long or Ruffels were ever one dimensional. Against Charlton, both were running at their defenders in the last few minutes, both have created problems in the opposition box at set pieces.

Of course, everyone is replaceable and no one is guaranteed a game. But I'm sure we will be prioritising other positions over full backs this summer.

Wasn’t there an article in the OM at the end of the season where Robinson listed the areas of the team that he was looking to recruit? If I recall correctly RB was definitely one position he mentioned

It was.
We will get a right back but they will have to play well which is a good position to be in.

All the attributes listed above ie attacking fullback good pace, and excellent defensively just reminds me of MR Baldock. That ship has sailed though!

I will be amazed if we don't sign a RB this summer.

What about Jordan Spence as either right back or Centre back, he can play either? He has been released by Ipswich, and played for MK Dons under KR., where he really rated him.
