I've read a lot of rubbish on here (I've written some of it) but I'd love to know how Reading is a "similar town" to Oxford?
Well its university is less attractive, certainly. To me any rivalry is on account of mere proximity, but that's presumably because I missed the grand old days of the 70s.

It’s up to the players to perform tonight, to show what they are can do , 1-0 will do

I grew up pretty much exactly half way between Reading and Oxford. When I was a teenager we used to go to Reading only for shopping and once a year for the festival. Oxford is and always has been a far more interesting place - better bands, better venues, better culture, better people, better architecture, better pubs, better parks and better football team.

This definitely matters. It matters to those of us who saw them goading and taunting us at The Manor. As plenty have referenced, if you were there that day you won’t forget those scenes. I was only a young teenager and I can still remember it now. And I remember walking out with my (now departed) dad and he just commented with a wry grin ‘it’ll be fun when we get them again on their way back down’. And so it bloody will.

It also matters to those of us who have spent most of the last 20 years living in Reading and having their fans look down their noses at you, watching on as we slid into the non-league and they romped into the PL picking up hoards of plastic fans along the way, hoovering up the best young talent in the area.

I cannot wait for tonight! Desperately hope the lads turn up and give us a proper performance!

Yeah certainly agree with that.

So what are we singing tonight?

Going Down?

Going Bust?

You can stick your ****ing tennis balls / biscuits up your wotsit?

What else?

my first Reading game, expecting big things based on the comments from the old guard - especially as they’re always keen to say how much better things used to be

There is only Slowdive of note to come out of Reading isn't there? Can't think of any others, whereas Oxford has had a vibrant music scene for decades...

Cooper Temple Clause from nearby Wokingham, whatever the name of the band that Ricky Gervais was in, has Kate Winslet ever sung in a film? Really struggling now.

Cooper Temple Clause who weren't exactly world beaters but had a few good songs on their debut album.

For example: "Who needs enemies, when you've got Reading", "Let's Kill Reading", "Panzer Attack Reading" and "Been Training Dogs (to bite Sam Smith)"

Chapterhouse, Teleman? That's kind of my point, we've immediately left football when talking about the rivalry.

Was going to mention CTC.
The Cure bassist is a Biscuitmen fan - he ruined Glasto the other year by flying a Reading flag during their headline set.
