You need some experience.
You're clearly not getting the idea of have one to switch with the other? The fact that they are both very similar but a bit older is exactly the point!

How much would it cost to bring in an experienced yet young and hungry midfielder capable of contributing to 20+ goals a season? Where as we could bring in a 27 year old who has already fitted in well, on a free transfer, to support Henry who remains under contract for another season.
I do get the idea, Henry has been quality for us. And as others have said, when he plays well we play well.
This season has shown it’s taken games for him to get up to speed, by alternating him and lee you’d have the same issues next season.
Would rather the next Gavin Whyte come in.

The thing about needing games is exactly the same for the team/other players.

Sam Long comes mind, has been here for years.
has proven himself to be one of our most consistent better players over the last couple of seasons.
Even before that when not involved regularly, He never let himself down in my opinion.
If Cadden hadn’t moved on where would he be.

But your previous point was that we need to go for young hungry players over those with experience. Sam Long is exactly one month younger than Elliott Lee (who is still only 26 and younger than I thought!) One has just had the best season of his career and the other is somehow past it?

Huddersfield reserves?

Not what I said.
No question about Eliott Lee’s age, just saying like for like and with James Henry at 32.
Gavin Whyte was 22 when we signed him.

Sam Long is 26 and may of had his best season a couple of years ago.
And would hope we’re already looking for his younger replacement

I'll be honest, I have no idea the point you're making. You dismissed the idea of bringing in Lee stating that we need to be looking at hungry young players. Then reinforce that by talking about a player who is literally 31 days younger.

James Henry may have just turned 32, but he remains under contract and despite a tricky last season he still played 40 times, scored 7 and had 8 assists. The season before he scored 14 and assisted plenty in a shortened season. There will be plenty of opportunities for younger players, but we shouldn't dismiss Henry anymore than we should dismiss the 31 year old Matt Taylor.

If you are good enough the you are old/young enough, the obsession with both sides of the age spectrum is a bit weird.

Not like we play any 12 year olds or 42 year olds, all of the players are that close in age that they are of the same generation so I don’t get that Elechi is to young or that Lee (at 27 for fucks sake) is to old, it’s just a question of whether they can be good for us in the couple (no one says very long in modern day football) of years they are here.

He did pretty well last season and with that I am more than happy he carries on

What do I need to say
James Henry 32 when he plays well we play well.
Henry will get niggles more and more each season, and will take time to get up and running each time.
Eliott Lee is a similar type of player, although younger has been at a higher standard but not looking to be there any longer.
Gavin Whyte signed at 22 young pacy and determined to make a impression in full time football.
Makes the club a couple of million.
Sam Long 3 seasons ago was 3 years younger, and hopefully had the same ambition as Gavin Whyte. But was playing 2nd fiddle to Chris Cadden. As I said in my opinion never let himself down when played.
We have youngsters already at the club, and there’s many good youngsters available like Eliott Lee let go by premier/championship clubs.
Sam Long next season should have some youngsters looking to take that shirt off him.
as Nelson/Dickie
Dickie/Atkinson
And by the way same for
Matt Taylor

No, still not sure I get it.

Only 50 year following Oxford, have seen a few good midfielders, but none better than Trevor Hebberd. Have a look at the clip at 6 minutes 45 seconds
Like you only 53 years following Oxford.
Hebberd is the best midfield player I have seen for Oxford.
And Jim Smith brought him in as a striker to replace Keith Cassells.

As fans, we like lauding our own, or future prospects. It's not a surprise that Henry hasn't won that award. But he's consistently been among our 3 best players in each of those seasons.

I'm astonished that there's no residual goodwill for the guy as soon as he has some poor patches.

I’m always surprised James Henry isn’t more lauded. I think it’s partly because he has a quiet and modest demeanour and a lazy style of running so doesn’t appeal to those who like to see lots of effort and players very obviously getting stuck in. He and Taylor are certainly getting on and apparently are our best paid players but I think both have another good season in them at this level.

JH game has never been about pace but ability so he could play a role for another 2 or 3 years if fitness stays good
