Henry has been great for us, but last season showed he can't do it week in, week out. Having someone like Lee who can share that role would make both more effective. Between them, they scored 13 and assisted 10 last season without the pace and energy that now appears to be the only criteria for success.
The main word in your paragraph is ‘was’ and that’s what I feel for both Henry and Lee. May be one of them, but not both.

I thought that. But I question why we need to have 2 journeymen who can't do much every week in a minimal squad. Yesterday's old lags.

I'd sooner have fullback cover and a proper centre-back backup (Mousinho is an old pal's arrangement like last season) than that.

The problem with 'when Henry plays well we play well' is he does it so seldom.

You don’t like Henry,we get it. But he was our best player for the last couple of seasons before this and scored a lot of goals , didn’t start this one so well but was great after his injury. I agree that we may not want to spend a lot on both him and Lee.

Buy someone as a right back, utterly insist they are a right back despite evidence to the contrary. Throw him down the gauntlet that he must play in midfield or clear off. Hes an odd chap is Robbo.
Can’t see why anyone would of thought Clare was a right back,
The palace friendly was enough to say he was totally lost in that position.

Not as odd as some on here who have been demanding that Clare plays in midfield and that everyone should fight for their place, only to moan when Robinson says exactly that!
Robinson liked Clare at Wednesday,
Just didn’t work out as a full back, hope he comes back and proves a point.

Two journeymen is not all together unfair, both Henry and Lee probably have their best games behind them. But together they can cover for each other and 60/30 minute splits and alternative games will hopefully allow both to operate at 100%. As mentioned, last season they scored 13 and assisted a further 10 in the league between them. Getting one player able to do that and you're looking at the likes of Dembele at Peterborough, so adding a free transfer who is already settled here is a pretty good alternative.

Best player? He hasn’t been fan’s player of the year ever, that’s been Sam Long, Dickie, Ruffels, Ledson since he arrived. Has he been players player?

He’s been good for us at times but I wouldn’t have ever called him our best player.

Lee is only about 27 isn’t he? Not an old journeyman at all , same age as Ryan Williams.

He almost single handedly kept us up and was an absolute class act for us after that.
Last season he had a poor first half of season but still was productive when we improved.
Great player who we have been lucky to have.

OK, best offensive player, top scorer at least once and must have made the most assists apart from all the other lovely passes and crosses.

A combined age of nearly 60, and both very similar.
Atkinson has shown, young hungry players are the way forward.
Whatever position.

As fans, we like lauding our own, or future prospects. It's not a surprise that Henry hasn't won that award. But he's consistently been among our 3 best players in each of those seasons.

I'm astonished that there's no residual goodwill for the guy as soon as he has some poor patches.

I’m still a bit confused as to how an attacking midfielder who wore the number 9 shirt at Hearts ended up in this situation, but we are where we are. Hopefully the door really is still open for him to make his mark here, and we aren’t just using stern words while knowing he’s off. It would be interesting to see what he can do. I know he looks quite slight but he’s 6’2” with good pace, plus he isn’t afraid to have a bit of a go. He got 13 bookings last season which is positively Gorrin-esque. That’s probably a few too many and suggests he needs to improve his decision making a little bit, but at least it shows that he isn’t a dainty little flower. If we want more power in midfield, both in terms of ability to power forward and willingness to put a foot in, he could be a decent option.

If he goes, he goes. I think it would be a shame, though. He’s clearly capable of playing in midfield at this level as his loan showed, and we spent six figures on him. It would be good to at least see him in a more suited role before cutting him loose, but if not then that’s how it is.
I think a lot of it’s a bit of frustration with himself.
fullbacks seem to be a bit of a problem judgement wise, data isn’t everything.
Grayson likewise can’t defend.

You're clearly not getting the idea of have one to switch with the other? The fact that they are both very similar but a bit older is exactly the point!

How much would it cost to bring in an experienced yet young and hungry midfielder capable of contributing to 20+ goals a season? Where as we could bring in a 27 year old who has already fitted in well, on a free transfer, to support Henry who remains under contract for another season.

Only 50 year following Oxford, have seen a few good midfielders, but none better than Trevor Hebberd. Have a look at the clip at 6 minutes 45 seconds

Even more surprising when you consider the way that Clare is seen as the second coming!

I love to see youth in the side and given a chance but quality players who consistently perform shouldn't be overlooked because of age .
