'insider dealing' with the new PFA chairman?

Hopefully. The PFA have been pretty clear they are going to challenge it if the FL management don't back down. I wouldn't be surprised if the clubs are the ones to change it through a vote due to the injury issues this season and the '20' rule would exacerbate it further.

If we could somehow manage to convince Brannagan and Ruffels to sign new deals, and could manage to sign Barker and Lee, then before any further additions, this is the squad we could already have next season:

Stevens
Eastwood

Long
Moore
Atkinson
Ruffels?
McNally

Gorrin
Brannagan?
McGuane
Henry
Sykes
Barker?
Forde
Clare
Hanson

Taylor
Agyei
Winnall
Lee?

Winnall signed for 2 years, so he'll be here next season, and to be fair, he has contributed well in recent games, so hopefully, after a full preseason, he'll get even fitter.
Hanson also has a year left, so will be going nowhere, but has shown himself to be useful full back cover.

If we could get that squad sorted, a few additions, such as a winger, CB, full back cover, and striker, a couple of which would have to be young loans, then what a squad we could have next season!

Gonna be an exciting summer...
Brannagan signed a new 2 deal last August so is here until 22/23 season but he does have a buy out clause.

As it stands, squad sizes next will season will be limited to 20 players. 18 outfield players. We are going to have to have some players who can play in various positions.
When did I say we didn't need utility players? The problem this season is that there have been too many of them. Forde, Hanson, Sykes, Clare, Grayson - even Henry and Agyei to an extent. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for one out-and-out right winger in the squad.

I actually like us better with one out and out winger and one wide midfielder. But I would be happy with a good right winger in the squad!

Put it on the "Squad for 21/22" thread.
But current situation following the updates this week.

Under contract for 21/22 and beyond:
1. Stevens (End of 23/24)
2. Eastwood (End of 23/24)
3. Long (End of 23/24)
4. Atkinson (End of 22/23)
5. Moore (End of 21/22)
6. McNally (End of 23/24)
7. Hanson (End of 21/22)
8. Clare (End of 22/23)
9. Brannagan (End of 22/23)
10. Cooper (End of 22/23)
11. Agyei (End of 21/22)
12. Taylor (End of 22/23)
13. Winnall (End of 21/22 + year option)
14. Osei-Yaw (End of 21/22)
15. Gorrin (End of 21/22)
16. Sykes (End of 21/22)
17. Henry (End of 21/22 + year option)
18. McGuane (End of 23/24)

Out of Contract:
Forde
Hall
Mousinho (Club Option)
Ruffels (Talks Started)

Loans Ending:
Barker
Grayson
Kelly
Lee
Shodipo

Of the OOC players, you'd suspect Mous will remain as a coach rather than as a player (although if the squad cap limit is relaxed, his fitness is OK and we have a 'spare' place I guess he could be registered) and Hall will be released. I think Forde is quite useful and think we might keep him. Ruffels situation is entirely in his hands.

Of the Loans, I think we will end up keeping Lee and not Kelly or Grayson. Barker will probably be off to a Champ club (unless we are one in which case he could stay!). Shodipo is the one I am most undecided about. He's scored some useful goals and has looked very good in patches - but the patches have been VERY patchy.

Personally wouldn't be against a cheeky little offer going in for Nathan Holland, I know last year there were £1m rumours but after another injury and back playing u23s (as far as I can tell), only 1 season left on his contract, I can't imagine he would be worth anything near that figure presently.

If we’ve managed to secure McGuane signature that does show intent and there is a possibility we could acquire Barker but with a clause in his contract if we’re not promoted by the end of the next season assuming we miss out this season that he would be free to talk to other clubs.

From the contracted players I think Cooper will go, and Osei-Yaw will be loaned out with a view to being taken on from January. I don't think Brannagan will be going anywhere, as he hasn't had a good enough season to be worth the risk of triggering his buy-out clause. Clare is a funny one, a very talented attacking midfielder but KR will maybe be looking elsewhere now with Sykes and McGuane signed up and Lee possibly coming. I think we'd be open to selling him if the right bid came along and we didn't end up losing money on him.

Of the others, Forde will be made an offer but may look elsewhere for first team opportunities (and fair enough). Hall will go, Mousinho will retire and stay at the club, possibly still on a registration if this bloody stupid cap doesn't come in. Ruffels will go elsewhere, too much time has elapsed without a signature, I wouldn't begrudge him the move to the championship despite the fact that he is nowhere near that level in my opinion.

The loans: Barker will go elsewhere, Grayson and Kelly we won't see for dust and Shodipo will go back as QPR will still see something in him. Lee I think we will end up signing, despite the fact that I haven't really been bowled over by him. If by some miracle we go up, then we won't take it further IMO.

Mousinho has recently been selected as PFA Chairman - where the requirement is that you're a current player - so he's not going to hang up his boots any time soon. Also I think it's been mentioned somewhere else that he might have had player-insured surgery on his knee, so he has to be seen to make an attempt to get back playing.

As much as I appreciate John’s role at the football club and his new venture at the PFA, I do find it to be somewhat selfish that he is insisting on playing again, despite the fact he is clearly no longer able to perform to the standard that we expect of him. He’s recovering from a serious injury and at his age, that’s going to be tough to come back from. There is no guarantee that he is going to be fit by the time the season starts, so he he is going to take up a place in the squad. As was the case this season, he was an un-used sub in 99% of the matches he was on the bench for. We need players that are ready and able to do a job, when called upon!

I would assume that if there's a squad cap in the league Mous won't be registered, and will be limited to the pizza trophy matches. He has to make attempts to continue as a player, but not his fault if we don't register him for the league. Mous is a really good man to have in the camp and the coaching setup so assuming it doesn't hurt our league campaign we should be doing what we can to help him out and keep him around.
