International News US Election YF Vote/Prediction

Who will win the US Election on Tuesday?

  • Donald Trump

    Votes: 25 46.3%
  • Joe Biden

    Votes: 29 53.7%

  • Total voters
    54
  • Poll closed .
And in the latest batshit crazy move by Trump, he has held discussions with his own officials about pardoning himself before he leaves office.

S'okay though...he created some jobs and raised wages (and possibly got trains running on time)....what a stand-up guy!

Only downside being Pence would be in place for the final days and could actually pardon Trump on his way out the door....
I think it would be a mistake to drag him through the courts. It’ll just stoke the base. Impeach him and let him fade away.

Just for information - here in the state of New Jersey, the On Time Performance of the trains (meaning arriving within 6 minutes of timetables) is 92.5%. Which is actually substantially worse than Network Rail.

It's also run by a private company that answers wholly to the state of New Jersey.

Which is to say that the trains don't run on time (even compared to Britain, let alone Switzerland) - but I can't actually pin that one on the Donald. :p

In some ways I do hope you're right as the more they marginalise themselves, the better! At present they have large swathes of died in the wool republicans in their thrall, but as the power ebbs away and they become ever more sensationalist, then I'm sure a good proportion of the more rational intelligent supporters will edge away quietly. A fair number already say that Trump should give up the "we were cheated" approach....which seems to be his only line at present.

ANy truth in the rumour that the Repbulicans will rebrand themselves to the "what were we thinking" party ahead of 2024...?

Can't see anything other than Trump and his fellow Trumpers still trying to takeover the GOP as stated in Trump's Rally. I don't think what happened at Capitol Hill will make any difference to what Trump will do other than affirm that his supporters are enthralled to him so will go after those perceived not to have supported him.

Are there enough non-Trumpers who will get organised enough to stop Primary defeat to Trump backed candidates? It was noticeable after the Senate got going again that only Democrats applauded Mitt Romney after his 5 min speech, not a single Republican, according to a couple of news outlets.

But I think it will impact how much more mainstream Republicans genuflect to Trump; because they now know if they do, next time they're in an election campaign, all they're going to see is a string of commercials that show the MAGA mob tearing up the Capitol, with Trump saying "I love you" played over the top of it. And that will make a difference with many voters. Well, some at least.

The Senate ended up voting 93-6 in favor of certifying the election last night.

Even Lindsey ****ing Graham, the Clay Davis of the US Senate, stood up and said "Trump and I, we’ve had a hell of a journey. I hate it to end this way. Oh my God, I hate it. From my point of view, he’s been a consequential president, but today, first thing you’ll see. All I can say is a count me out. Enough is enough."

There are doubts that self pardon would legally stand but it hasn't been tested so who knows.

If Pence was still willing*, then Trump could resign which would make Pence President (however briefly) and he could pardon Trump which would have legal standing from what I've read.

I'd genuinely laugh though if Pence agreed to the above, but never intended to follow through, to get Trump out of the office. Sadly this scenario won't happen.

*I wouldn't be surprised even after what Trump has done and said if Pence agreed to this.

The immediate polls I saw about the situation, a majority of Republicans supported what happened! Admittedly not big numbers in the polls.

Who will the non Trumpers (laughably including Lindsay Graham) coalesce and organise around? There doesn't seem a stand out, albeit my knowledge may be lacking. They really will need to organise as Trump has already got his base.

It may be just me, but having already been thrown under the bus by trump earlier in the day with the 'he can stop it if he wants' rubbish, then pence looked mightily pee'd off when they reconvened, so I don't see him doing his boss any favours

Funny to see Trump throw his supporters under the bus yesterday to try and avoid some legal culpability.
