around this time of year ( some years back now) local DIY disco-punk trio Holy Roman Empire released their chistmas single

it was around the time that OUFC Staff at the Manor ground weren't getting paid! so Holy Roman Empire did an Oxford United mix on said single with all profits from the mix version going to OUFC staff fund

The Band also played a short gig pre the home match v Birmingham City in the supporters club - ( record home defeat until the more recent Wigan one at the Breeze Block)

there's a scan of the Oxford united mix cd cover below

however the soundfile is of the xmas single non Oxford United mix version- incidentally considerably more copies of the Oxford United mix sold in comparison to the 'official' crimbo single

.... one of the b-sides of the HRE xmas single is an irreverant near 100mph, punked-up version of Radiohead's Street Spirit ...... which was possibly why Radiohead namechecked em ( C'mon, C'mon , If you want to take us on, Holy Roman Empire ,come on) in You and Whose Army

Colin Greenwood , along with other members of Radiohead - at different times, were often seen in the audience at HRE gigs in Oxford during the 90s
