There’s an oik who sits a couple of rows behind us who is really loud and abusive towards the ref at every home game, usually for no rational reason. Over and over and over again he bellows “ref, you’re an absolute c*nt. Your family aren’t proud of you.” etc. etc.

Most people around us are fed up with him. I’ve got no problem with loud support and banter, but this is just unjustified, irritating, noisy abuse. Not to mention there are plenty of kids around hearing it. The irony is his Mum sits next to him in silence as he unloads!

I turned around the other week and said “Alright, mate, we get the message”, which calmed him down a bit, but the next game he was just as bad.

Inside the ground are posters (see below) that encourage us to report unsavoury behaviour, including “FOUL – abusive language and behaviour”. The question is should I report him? He’s not (yet) dished out any racist or homophobic abuse, which I would 100% report, but he’s pretty distasteful at every single game. What say you?

My guess would be that if you are confident enough to speak to him again, and get others around you to back you up, that you might be able to sort it out without getting the authorities involved. If you don't feel so safe, or that approach doesn't work or it makes him worse, then call FOUL.

This will be interesting.

No ref = no game.

Try the "nice approach" if that fails report him.

I doubt the ref hears much, if any of it at all.
If it's in the family stand then he should rightly be reported.
We have a similar guy near us (East Stand) and we love it.
If he's reported for swearing, then we better start reporting everyone who sings the Brannagan Magic hat song too.

in the heat of the moment, questioning the referee's favoured personal habits or parentage is (kinda) acceptable .... isn't it?

if in the family stand ....call him a rascal

now, here's a thing - there's part of a block in SSL that is frequently co-opted as an 'auxillary' family stand section by the marketing dept- with guards of honour and their entourage imposed located there,

Yet ST holders in the said SSL block are paying around £65 MORE than a NS Family Area ST holder, for youngish kids & their non regular football supporting families- up n down to the kiosk/ toilets etc all the time (it seems)- some of the so-called responsible adults are actually really irresponsible too ( with no consideration for those wanting to watch the game),... which is impacting on ST holders, some of them long term ST holders!, matchday experience, in many ways, at almost every match..... this includes, with smallish kids being invariably around in abundance, the feeling of having to 'mind Ps and Qs' while watching the game - despite said SSL area NOT being the designated Family stand area

It really ain't fuckingright

Well at Sutton on Tuesday we had some stewards threatening to enforce rules about swearing from the Oxford fans.
So to eject fans / escort out of the ground

The initial foul language was only to ask why our players didn’t do put more ******* effort in.

Meanwhile a fan in our end had been constantly baiting the Sutton goalkeeper. Entirely nonsense banter about going to the gym until he started calling him a nonce.

I called him out on this as offensive and got the old retort “if he’s not a nonce why would he be offended ?” Took me a few times to ask him ‘what if the goalie’s kids were watching and asked why their dad was being called a nonce.’ before he stopped.

Sadly that is some of our fan base.

The home stewards did nothing apart from those swearing.
