It might just be me, but is Man City bidding £100m for Grealish completely barmy?

I'll admit I don't really 'get' Grealish - he seems a bit of an unappealing mixture of falling over too easily and making poor decisions too often, albeit he is obviously naturally pretty gifted. Can someone explain to me what is worth that amount of money about him?*

*Although you might have a difficult job as I find it hard to imagine how *any* footballer is worth that!

‘Falling over’ if you get a foul is valuable. He’s the most fouled player in the league and that, if you are good at set pieces, means goals. It will also get you playing against booked players (less likely to tackle) and against 10 men.

The phrase "fouls won" is all that is wrong with modern football. You don't "win" fouls, the opposition are penalised fouls.

Going down to ensure the free-kick isn't a good attribute, stay on your bloody feet. "Feeling a touch" and going down is cheating.

Old Skool and proud.

(I'm not saying this is what Grealish does, just general observation)

Just out and out calf muscle jealousy in this post.

£100m is excessive but they'd be getting a player of quality.

The relaxation of the FFP has allowed Man City to flex their financial muscles (with little repercussions) and be prepared to pay more than they should but will guarantee that they get him.

Everything that is wrong with the modern game.

Clubs go bust and are ripped from communities yet MC can "flex their chequebook" for £100,000,000?

For what? Someone who has mastered the art of diving & conning the ref?

Complete bollox the game is finished and just becoming a corporate plaything.

Has Man City paying a £100 million for Grealish and Macclesfield etc going bust got anything to do with each other? Didn’t clubs go bankrupt well before the big money came into the game?

English football supports the best football system in the world, 92 professional clubs plus some more and a thriving non league system, as bad as the governance can be it’s still better than anywhere else, that’s why our crowds are so much bigger down the leagues than the rest of the world.

From an England perspective, I'm excited to see how good he could become under Guardiola's tutelage
Would looove Kane and Grealish to go there this summer. It would absolutely end the Premier League as a serious contest, but imagine England at the next World Cup with Foden, Grealish, Sterling and Kane having spent the previous 18 months playing together under Pep Guardiola (not to mention possibly also Stones and Walker). Would be unplayable.

Manchester United have been splashing their cash. Can’t help feeling that is going to end in tears

And why’s that ? Yeah, you’d have thought signing a genuine world class defender in Varane and a talent like Sancho can only weaken them. 🙄
Unless I am missing something, would have to agree .

You don't think this arms race of transfer fees escalating into the hundreds of millions during a relative economic downturn is going to harm the sport in general if left unchecked?

High level of assists
Carries the ball further than many top players
More dribbles per game than anyone else
More completed dribbles per game than anyone else
Quick
Technically gifted
Strong
Young

I’m a Grealish fan. £100mil in today’s market is about right..

Big Grealish fan.

But £100 mil sums up just how barmy player valuations have become.

If a league one club start spending £100 million on a player then maybe (even one as rich as us) but that’s unlikely. It’s not Man City’s fault if lower level clubs spend beyond there means, if you buy a house for two million quid that doesn’t mean I should sell my caravan and buy one does it?

This is more like if I bought a decent house for 10 million quid, and now if you need a caravan, it's going to cost £500,000

Grealish is fine for City but wouldn’t suit any counter attacking team. He’s very good at retaining the ball but his instinct when he first receives it is to turn towards his own goal and completely slow down the momentum. City like to plot their way towards goal and he will be great but at somewhere like Man Utd I think he’d drive them mad with how they want to turn defence into attack as quickly as possible. He’s a great player but not one of those players who would fit every team.
