I heard it was down to his spell as Director of Coaching in Rhodesia*.

People struggle to deal with our colonial past - as Cecil's statue would confirm if it wasn't just a statue.

Asprey replaced Roy Burton with David Brown who immediately had a stinker in a game against Chesterfield. I wrote to Asprey raising some concerns about this decision. I got in return what I can only describe as a hand-written rant, although to be fair to him, he undoubtedly wrote it himself. No tears shed when he was shown the door.

Saw Eddie Denton at the Oxford City preseason friendly last year, as it goes.

Tony Obi, the superstar of the reserves. Always enjoyed watching the odd reserve game around then. I remember Obi tearing apart the Arsenal defence in a Football Combination game.

But how the hell did that blade only get a yellow for a full length diving handball on the line stopping a goal? Unreal ?

I think Sheff. Utd were top and we were second at the start of 1979-80 so the game was given top billing on MOTD despite it
being a third division game. I was allowed to stay up late to watch it.

Gary Briggs chopped the striker down for the pen and then scored the OG.
