FA Cup Cost of VAR at Newcastle

Things like 4th official and var get introduced because someone thinks that having more detailed information will reduce the amount of controversy. Anyone who works in science knows this is a fallacy. The more you know, the less you know. The more detail, and the finer that detail is, the more grounds for dispute and argument there is.

This has been perfectly demonstrated by VAR: the amount of controversy and argument has quadrupled. When England’s over-the-line-then-bounced-out goal in ?2014? was not awarded there was a bit of discussion. Now it’s almost everything that happens in the penalty area that’s up for discussion.

If you want to keep things clear and high level, have minimal laws, and refs with absolute authority, and put up with a bit of uncertainty because that is how the real world works.
