I like the way he chose cars that marked his life, Iâve had a golf gti a 205 gti, a mk 1 escort sport that I loved and built to a stage 1 rally engine and a montego turbo that was mental, it had so much torque steer it was a monster to drive.I must have been lucky.
Iâve owned exactly 30 since 1994 and only had issues with 1- a 1972 Ferrari 365GTC/4, which needed an engine rebuild.
Iâve had more issues with German products
(Porsche)
There really is nothing to beat driving with the roof down. Wooly hat, flying jacket and a layer of frost across the top lip mid winter! (Alternative is sunglasses, baseball cap and shirtsleeves in summer!)Nicest cars Iâve owned include Ford Escort 1300GT. Two Mark Two Escorts that were 1.6GL, Ford Orion 1.8GhiaSI. Ford Orion 1.6Ghia I. Had a Golf GTI Mk3, VW Scirocco Mk1 when I was 24. Currently have a Skoda Octavia 1.5TSI and a Mazda MX5 2011. The most fun car of all has to be MX5. Open top motoring is something else, always brings a smile to a 69 year, little things please little minds so they say
I used to work for a garage the did 3 year leases on cars so got to drive all sorts of cars, we could go from a tickford converted jag xjs convertible to a metro then back to a sierra cosworth, I now work for a Merc classic restorer so get to work on all sorts of weird and wonderful cars.Nicest cars Iâve owned include Ford Escort 1300GT. I've been after a Jag XK8 or XKR for a few years now but it's almost impossible to find one without serious rust problems, regardless of mileage.I used to work for a garage the did 3 year leases on cars so got to drive all sorts of cars, we could go from a tickford converted jag xjs convertible to a metro then back to a sierra cosworth, I now work for a Merc classic restorer so get to work on all sorts of weird and wonderful cars.
One question - Why?!! That era of Jags were delivered from new with rust built in. Took decades for them to recover their status as a serious manufacturer. (and now they have issues with their electric cars, apparently)I've been after a Jag XK8 or XKR for a few years now but it's almost impossible to find one without serious rust problems, regardless of mileage.
Would love an XJS (NOT the V12!) but the reliability would be a concern.
Lucky you .I used to work for a garage the did 3 year leases on cars so got to drive all sorts of cars, we could go from a tickford converted jag xjs convertible to a metro then back to a sierra cosworth, I now work for a Merc classic restorer so get to work on all sorts of weird and wonderful cars.
