So we'll be looking to:

A) Better Barnsley's result (i.e. we win and they draw/lose or we draw and they lose) ✅
B) Better Lincoln's result (as above) ✅
C) Equal Blackpool's result ✅

Barring any massive GD swing (or the very specific scenario of us losing combined with Blackpool drawing - whereby we scrape 7th on GD) then it's pretty much:

1. If none of the above happen - we finish 8th ❌
2. If one happens we finish 7th ❌
3. If two happen we finish 6th ✅
4. If all three happen we finish 5th ✅

We say this every year though. We always seem to need a clear out, always need to add a bit more quality in the summer, always aspiring to a top 6 next year but unfortunately always bottling it in the actual season we are in. Who cares about next year? This season has been sat here gift wrapped for us but once again we’ve messed it up from boardroom to manager to players. Next year will be no different, we will be having the exact same conversations we’ve had for past 7 or 8 seasons. We are a nearly club, simple as that.
Yeah, but at least you are in the FA Cup final.

Very odd way to look at it!

Because if our result is a win, then we only need either A) or B) to happen, and we don't give a damn what Blackpool do......I guess we will be equalling their result, but we won't need to.

EDIT - I think on reflection, my complaint is that your algorithm is correct but likely overly complex for the situation at hand. I'm thinking of it as just 'we need to win and hope that either Barnsley or Lincoln don't.......unless some really weird **** happens on the final day'

If one happens, and that one thing is that we better either one of Barnsley's or Lincoln's results by winning, then Blackpool are of no consequence, and we finish 6th.

My head has just exploded 😂

I’ll keep it simple… fcuking win and we may just sneak in.

I'm imagining Billy Bleach from the Fast Show explaining this...

So I can only assume that if and when the final whistle blows on a 1-1 draw at Exeter on Saturday you'll turn off all your devices and not bother to check any other scores elsewhere, safe in the knowledge that it's all over?

Of course a win increases our chances, but it's unnecessarily harsh of you to dismiss any consideration beyond that as 'very odd' - when there are multiple (perfectly plausible) scenarios whereby we draw and still make it*. I look forward to reminding you on Saturday when one of them comes in.

*For the record, we'd make the play-offs with a draw if...
- Barnsley Win, Lincoln Lose, Blackpool Draw
- Barnsley Win, Lincoln Lose, Blackpool Lose
- Barnsley Draw, Lincoln Lose, Blackpool Draw
- Barnsley Draw, Lincoln Lose, Blackpool Lose
- Barnsley Lose, Lincoln Win, Blackpool Draw
- Barnsley Lose, Lincoln Win, Blackpool Lose
- Barnsley Lose, Lincoln Draw, Blackpool - Draw
- Barnsley Lose, Lincoln Draw, Blackpool Lose
- Barnsley Lose, Lincoln Lose, Blackpool Win
- Barnsley Lose, Lincoln Lose, Blackpool Draw
- Barnsley Lose, Lincoln Lose, Blackpool Lose

What about if we lose 🙂

Cumming is meh. Matete, Edwards, Goodwin, Burey etc all a waste of time (and money).
Hold on, a few months ago, when you were trying to suggest the squad was good enough and was being mismanaged by Des, these were all good for League 1.

In fact, I tell a lie. One of them was very good, in fact. Now that Des's recruitment is being questioned, these players are all rubbish. Funny that.

Very good L1:
Edwards

Good L1:
Cumming
Goodwin
Matete
Burey

At least this time you haven't changed your opinion of a player in the same day 😜

This 'Clear out' Wont be happening - Brannagan has asked for an improved deal or will be looking to move on. Murphy, Mcgaune can leave on a free. Can also see Moore & Goodrham going. The likes of Bodin, Long , Brown who arent good enough will be starting every week again.
Bodin who is out of contract? Doubt very much he will be getting a new deal.

This point is irrelevant as it’s literally not what Des walked in to.

He walked in to a side sat 2nd in the league with a united group of players and a united fanbase. See Leyton Orient away. Magic.

He’s managed 29 L1 games since arriving picking up 39 points. 1.3 PPG.

Over a season that’s 59 or so points.
That’s simply not good enough.
The level of a Bristol Rovers/Northampton.

You’d be finishing 13th to 15th over a full season.
Manning also took his whole coaching team with him. Des then had the worst run of injuries possible. We could barely field a bench over Christmas. He’s changed the style, which is his right. I’d be more worried if he didn’t want to put his stamp on the side. In the summer he has the opportunity to be ruthless and make this squad his own. I hope he takes it. We need to be utterly ruthless and remove players who are simply not good enough. I will not repeat who they are, as I’ve said it a thousand times.

You are creating a far bigger picture than is necessary. We kept ourselves alive until Friday just gone, a scenario that shouldn't in all honesty have been too demanding for any incoming manager with 6 months and a winter window to play with. It effectively came down to a two game season, Lincoln and Stevenage. Two home games, 11 v 11, great backing from the fans, a 5-0 mauling of Peterborough in the lead up, under the lights, everything was set up. What do we get? Two ok'ish performances but a pathetic one goal (disputed penalty) return. Dress this up how you like, go back as far as you like, but whatever went on before we just needed steering through these two games - Manning, last summer, the boardroom, any excuse you like has no bearing at all on these two fixtures.

Where's the alternative game plan when our preferred one is clearly not working? Side to side football and 50 yard diagonals to the wing for 190 minutes of malfunctioning football. It's the easiest football in the world to stop and defend against - keep your shape and double up on the wingers. Job done.
Our squad isn’t good enough to have sustained a full season. We need the summer to clear out the deadwood. What will prove if Des is ruthless will be if he gets rid of players like Long,Eastwood etc who are simply not good enough.

Long and Eastwood are under contract hun. I’m sure they’ll mainly be reserves though Sam does have a good record of getting his place back from his supposed replacement

Northampton have nothing to play for which plays into Barnsley’s hands and makes it an easier prospect for Barnsley but Exeter who have nothing to play for, will be really up for it?
Suppose the difference is that Exeter are on a run of something like 10 unbeaten, Northampton aren’t. That being said, they are the type of side who love to P**s on your parade.
