What a sad way to look at life.
or just being realistic? Not letting 3 results (2 of them against shocking sides) get me carried away. I will still be at every game supporting us just realistic that we arent good enough.

It feels a bit disingenuous to base whether the season has been a 'success' or a 'failure' based on where we are now versus the first 15 games of the campaign, discounting completely the upheaval of a manager leaving, a raft of injuries, and a new manager having to implement his own style.

I'm not sure it's fair to take a specific, fixed period of good form and extrapolate it across a whole season. Using this logic, I could say 'Mark Harris has had an awful season, because based on his form in the seven league games between January 1st and February 10th, he should be on nearly 40 goals for the season'.

Will be a very different Boro if we do - Played them on the back of 3 games in 6 days and they were very poor.
How do you know?
We demolished Peterborough. Sure they played 3 games- are you suggesting g we have a huge excuse for losing Friday?

Not sure that is realistic. It is glass 3/4 empty!
I have watched football over decades to know that you never know what will happen.

But that's not realistic. It's being ridiculously pessimistic to the point of misery.

Who have we beaten in the top 6 apart from Peterborough under Des? stats dont lie once we step up to better opposition we get beat.

We’re still in a great position. I think it’s fair to ask serious questions of Des if we lose the next two games, but let’s wait until the end of the season for all that. Last night may well have been a blip, with a bit of luck we’d have won or drawn that. We could still easily have that luck and beat Stevenage on Friday and things will look much more rosy…

Yes. This why we are 6th, and not top.

And what would 'good enough' look like to you? Because if you want us to be consistently beating the top 6, it sounds like the only thing you think would be 'good enough' would be to win the league.

We are top 6 because of where Manning put us - If You have been happy with the football over the past 5 months & see us going up then fair enough but i just cant see it.

We hammered better opposition 2 games ago!
Most teams are beaten by better opposition most of the time ( they are better off after all).
IF we get I to the play offs it is cup football. Let's see?
I appreciate that you think that we will be hammered regardless which is fine. I have seen far too much football to be anywhere near certain of what you seem.to be.

Just got to beat Stevenage Friday and hope that Blackpool and Barnsley draw, and Cheltenham beat Lincoln!!

This would guarantee us a play off place, with us in 5th on goal difference over Barnsley both on 76 points each, leaving Lincoln and Blackpool on 71 points with one game to go!

Now wouldn’t that be nice!

Just hope that Evans moving on from Stevenage doesn’t inspire their players!!

Blackpool are on a funny old run…

In their last eight games their fans have only seen six goals in total! You’re seeing 0.75 goals a game as a Blackpool fan in that run! Six 1-0s and two 0-0s.

They’ve scored 4 goals in 8 games but only conceded 2. Making a late run for the playoffs built on a solid defence but not much in attack! Much prefer the way we’re going about things…

They've managed a pathetic 20 goals in 22 League away games. And 4 of those came at Fratton Park.

So your fun fact for the day is that 1/5 of Blackpool's total away goals for the season have come against the Champions.

Or, if you prefer:

No. of goals scored by Blackpool, at Portsmouth: 4

No. of goals scored by Blackpool, at Carlisle, Port Vale, Cheltenham, Burton, Wycombe, Cambridge, Wigan, Exeter, Northampton, Orient, Stevenage, Bolton, Derby and Lincoln  combined: 3 (three)

What I 'see' doesn't matter. What we *do*, does.

I don't know what will happen, and I won't pretend I can predict it. I do know that it's possible for us to do it, and that's just going to have to be enough.

We are top 6 because we got some points under Manning and some points under Buckingham.

Some of the football hasn't been great under Buckingham (and some has been straight up dire), but neither was it when Manning took over at the end of last season. It has improved significantly in the last month.

Quite frankly it's boring seeing people pick specific periods or points from the past, and using those moments as a stick with which to beat the present.

We could play 5 games of horrible, boring, slow, defensive, dull football and go up, or we could play two dominant, attacking, fast-paced exciting games and miss out on the play-offs altogether. The truth, as always, will probably be somewhere in the middle.

I'm not sure I'll ever understand this mindset where 'we're not good enough', 'we'll get found out against x', etc. We've had some great results recently, and some disappointments. That's life. Football isn't linear. Sometimes you don't get what you deserve, sometimes you get what you don't deserve. but over the course of a season you end up roughly where you deserve.

By 5pm next Saturday we'll know better whether we've got what we deserved from this season, and then on Sunday morning we'll all be looking forward to the next game - whenever that may be - in our own way.
