International News Covid-19 .....

As I've found with MOTs and people have with Michael Gove this morning, Govt advice is too vague or contradictory in the detail in some key areas. It needs clear and unequivocal advice when announced, not mop ups after wards.
Mots are still being done, the ministry could stop them by disabling the computer system but they haven’t, what happens if you get caught by a camera if you haven’t got one
No one seems to know.
They don’t want people going out yet you can still get an mot.

Life goes on in London. Nothing has changed.

Total lock down needed, only food shops can open, DIY shops to not need to open, yet ToolStation, Screwfix etc all are.

Keyworkers should only be emergency service and retail staff.
I'm not sure that it is that simple?
There are a lot if key workers legitimately.
We all need food so the food producers, transporters, ascwell as the supermarkets. Delivery staff for takeaway food?
So in the basis that lockdown could be months, what about binmen? If the bins aren't collected for months? On that basis those servicing the lorries.
What about emergency electricians/ gas men ( if your boiler breaks is it tough you have to wait a month or more?)
The water board?
Even broadband engineers. If we want everybody to be stuck inside for weeks on end and work from.home?

My gas fitter has been told by his licensing authority to only attend emergencies. I guess the can enforce that because they won't accept new certificates.

Bit of a b****r as my new fire was being installed on Thursday.

Never mind.

Similar story here, been waiting for a local builder/maintenance chap to do some re-pointing work as we are getting a damp patch in one room. Called him up for an update only to be told that he had decided to stop work and stay at home. Can't argue with him but as he would not have required any physical contact with us, it seemed a little extreme. One man job, no danger.

The current Govt advice is still if your MOT expires, you cannot use your car and must be declared as SORN and parked off of the road until you get it MOT'd. MOT Centres are still open and should be used. NI have put a 3 month extension on all MOTs to remove the issue, England, etc seem to be unclear on what they will do and as such, the current stays as is.

Spoke to the Garage, they are still open and we are trying to work out a way of doing it as it's 5 mins away. The current plan is someone picks the car up if they can, and I take my daily exercise to pick it up when it's done. Or just go there, drop it off, come home and pick it up and hope the Rozzers don't notice - sntiches get stitches! ;) . Unfortunately my neighbour needs the car to do a weekly shop, so we are stuck for alternatives as they are over 70.

I can see that we aren't the only ones struggling with the MOT issue, judging by the concern on social media. Some key workers are understandably very worried with the mixed messages they are getting. They have to work but won't be road legal or even covered by insurance.

it would make sense for an Irish style 3 month mot 'extention' under the circumstances? .... think I read somewhere that road tax has some sort of extention/waiver type thing in place currently or incoming at the end of the month?, cant find the info about it at the moment though

MOT Tests are currently "under review".
My friend Luigi is open and working for regulars.
You ring up to book it , drop the keys in a letterbox, his son drives him to collect the car does the job, you pay either by card or cash, and his son drives him back to the garage. And that is his "normal" way of working.

I was due to start major dentistry work yesterday I had booked a week off work to get it done. That was cancelled yesterday as they are only allowed to do emergency work only. Got to wait to its all over.
