General Most Loved/Hated Music

@Eric Blair I'm also something of a fan of Mrs Coltrane and on that front, try the new album from Amanda Whiting 'The Liminality Of Her'. Features flautist Chip Wickham his 'Shamal Winds' record is one of my favourite jazz albums of recent years, along with the Floating Points & Pharoah Sanders record 'Promises'.
Listening to the Amanda Whiting record @Big Ron . Flipping lovely. Thanks for that.

I try to like everything - more fun that way - but I struggle with anything by the smiths, and wind of change by the Scorpions.

You sound like my wife there - closest she ever came to killing me was when we visited Moscow (back in 2018 - we're not monsters), on roughly the 71st occasion that I suggested we follow the Moskva down to Gorky Park, and then started whistling......

Pleased you like it! I also really like Greg Foat's 'Symphonie Pacifique', particularly the title track - it's 4 years old but a recent discovery for me.
Will check it out. Also enjoyed that Chip Wickham record. Really up my street. Cheers

Loves:
Laura Branigan Brannagan: Gloria/ Self Contol (can't decide which is better)
Queen: Radio Ga Ga
The Killers ft. Bruce Springsteen: Dustland
Nena: 99 Luftballons
Caesars Palace: Jerk It Out
First Aid Kit: Wolf

Special mention to Weird Al Yankovic: Ebay. Until I heard this song, I actually didn't like listening to music at all. Fell down the Weird Al rabbit hole, which led to me liking comedy music. Then I started playing GTA and rather enjoyed the radio stations on there. Pretty much anything on Flash FM, Wave 103, K-DST, K-Rose etc. I'd recommend people listen to them, a good mix of music (well, maybe not certain members. The swearing might insult them).

Also, going to plug this thread. Some new (really shite) clues for you to work out a band or an artist, Karl Pilkington style (really should have plugged this at the time of the XFM thread. Oh well)

Slightly different from me this morning, 5 songs I currently have on 'heavy rotation'...

Ikarus - The K's. Opening track to their new album, and a really good Indie Guitar blast.
4.5% - Andrew Cushin. Stripped back and powerful lyrically. Andrew Cushin is one to watch.
Adrenaline - The Reytons. In your face blast of guitar energy.
Read The Room - The Smile. Jitty. Edgy Feeling. Jonny Greenwood. What more do you need in a track?
My People - Woo. Liverpool band just starting out. They have nailed the 'Northern Indie' sound, hopefully will find a decent audience.

You say that like it's a good thing

Well yes and no, it is easy to get wrong (Oasis), but sounds great when done right (Doves).
Do you genuinely not like Oasis, or just think they're a bit overrated? I can imagine you wouldn't like all of it but I reckon songs like Talk Tonight, Listen up, Masterplan and Cloudburst surely you like at least a bit?

I must be that annoying crazed musical fanboy because I think Oasis are unbelievable.

As a matter of interest, do you like any of Noel or Liams 'solo' stuff?

I don't like any of the songs you mentioned, nor any of the solo stuff. I do like 'Live Forever' and 'Supersonic', in fact a lot of the debut album is pretty good. The second album was OK at the time but has aged terribly. I didn't mind 'D'you know what I mean', the opener from the third album, but the rest of the record left me cold. Not liked anything since.

I think you should give Noel's "dead in the water" another listen, I think that's a beautiful tune. It's weird how much of a taste thing music is, and how subjective it is.

I genuinely can't fathom how people enjoy Heavy metal, or that "fall out boy" dirge, or Queen, it's weird how we all perceive music so differently. A good example is Ed Sheeran, who is heralded as amazing, but I don't get it or understand it myself, I'm sure he is very talented but none of the songs make me feel anything, and some of them I find quite actively irritating.

I love the Masterplan b side album, better than most band’s actual albums.

Bit of an age divide with Oasis, if you were over 20 something when they came out you didn’t like them but if you were under that you were a fan, obviously on this forum a fair few have one foot in the grave so they are not that popular on here.

...or you were in to Suede, Pulp, Mansun, who were all more interesting than Oasis 😁

Ocean Colour Scene and The Verve were much better bands than Oasis or Blur.
