IF we make the play offs, then the odds would certainly be against us, but you never know in a kind of cup competition .I’m of the opinion that failure to make the play offs this season should see us part ways at the end of the season.
If we do make the top 6, I don’t think we are capable of beating any of the sides above us over 2 legs. If we manage to do that then that will be a big tick in Des favour in my opinion. Obviously a L1 play off final is a bit of a lottery.
If we make the play offs (which is the minimum from what was inherited) then Des deserves a summer to have an another crack at it next season.
Do you think I’m being fair there? @ECYellow
What if we miss the playoffs by goal difference? A bit harsh to sack a guy for that. Or if we crawl feebly into them after Lincoln implode, do we have to keep Des for ever?I’m of the opinion that failure to make the play offs this season should see us part ways at the end of the season.

It’s funny though because the go to app Fotmob has Cameron Brannagan as the best player in league 1 on the season ratings ahead of so many good players. I massively think the new 4-1-4-1 formation is going to get the best out of our players with more defensive full backs hopefully making us more solid and the wingers hopefully creating more good or very good chances for Harris/Goodwin.Comparing Manning to Buckingham in terms of style of play. Manning knew what his players were capable of and more importantly what they were not good at. Players were asked to play in their comfort zone, do the things they were good at, in a style they could understand. He was literally getting a quart out of a pint pot.
Buckingham just wants to play his way irrespective of his player skill sets. We concede goals because full backs are caught out of position. We make reckless passes out of defence because we no longer have a midfield of substance. Our defending of corners is bordering on suicidal.
The players are exposed game in game out, confidence is mostly shot away. The only players who prosper are the wide players because the whole plan is to feed them. I really wonder if this style can be sucessful in League 1. It worked in the Indian Premier League great, but I'm sure the overall management nous across this league is superior. We are nowhere near having the players to play that way. Indeed we need a complete rebuild to even try, a bit of tinkering will not do it.
We just look so easy to play against and teams quickly adapt to any subtle change of shape. Now we appear to be getting a pint out of a quart pot. We look to be on a journey to mid table mediocrity for time immemorial. Depressing is the only emotion.

Was it Huddersfield who won the Championship play offs without scoring a goal ( and I think that they stayed up in the PL the next season).

Too much time on my hands. Here is the league table since Des Buckingham took over. As everyone knows a mid table performance. Impressed with Reading's form lets hope they can beat Lincoln on Saturday. Lincoln replaced their manger on the 13th November 3 days before Des was appointed

They have been deducted 6 points this season and if you add them on then they would be as high as…15th!There's your reason why - as I've said previously - Ruben Selles should be our number one managerial target should Des depart. Was it 10 points Reading were deducted ? Stick that on and what an absolutely outstanding job he's done. Like the way Reading play too, lot of good technical players, lot of pace and move the ball quickly.

He’s had to contend with a lot and done a good job, but let’s not act like it’s a miracle he’s kept that squad up - Knibbs, Smith, Wing, Azeez, Savage, Button, Holmes. He had Abbey, McIntyre and Vickers who all got good moves in January as well. That's a great job from the bottom of the league. Look at the off field issues he has to contend with too. Anyone who doesn't think he's done an outstanding job doesn't have a clue what a good job done in football is!
Lincoln’s away record looks extremely formidable. Let’s hope we break the run for them. A draw is clearly no good to us, but I bet Lincoln would take itToo much time on my hands. If we’re still level after that game, 6 points from Cheltenham away and Portsmouth home is no certainty. I’d rather have Stevenage and Exeter, especially if Pompey haven’t won the league by then.A draw could be ok if we are ahead of Lincoln when we play them.

It’s a must not lose. If we draw that and win the other games, we’ll make the playoffs.
We can’t lose to them, it’ll give us too much to do. Like you say there’s no big difference in run-ins. Worth pointing out though that while they’re 15 games unbeaten Lincoln and obviously in amazing form, they’ve actually only beaten two top-half sides in that run. Had a lovely run of fixtures. They’re favourites but not by miles. Is Cheltenham any easier away than Exeter though? And for their Portsmouth, see our Peterborough. Nothing in it in terms of easiness in my opinion. Add in their form and our mixed form then I'm not seeing how we are favourites. Everything points to them on form and run in but as we know it doesn't work like that. The absolutely certainty in all of this is that we cannot lose to them, that will be the six pointer of all six pointers. It's not a miracle we require, it's just that we are battling the most in form team in the country. Here's hoping!

If we do draw against them, the idea they could drop points in two of the other four games isn’t at all wild.
