But you also shouldn't judge Brannagan purely on other failures. I don't think any other L1 club would have offered him the contract we did to keep him last season. I'm not even sure we would again. That's nothing to do with Brannagan, who continues to be magnificent, but if that comes at an inflated cost then it may not still be value for money.

Robinsons situation caused the big pay packet so in one sense you are right, he is very expensive, but at least he does deliver against that, given his wage he would need to deliver stunning figures to be value for money. If the other expensive players delivered we would probably be challenging for the automatics and he would be a key figure in that and it wouldn't be such a bad deal, they are such flops that they drag the whole club down unfortunately. One assist and very little game time from numbers 2-4 in the wage structure is a bit of a disaster.

Our owners are putting a lot of money into the playing and non playing sides of the club. In my opinion, those people charged with managing it are not doing a good job with it (this is senior management, and not aimed at Des) so please stop this nonsensical "we're only little Oxford, and should be grateful to be here" rubbish.

I'm grateful that our owners are putting the money in, but very concerned at how it's being squandered.

In our promotion years in the eighties I recall that most of the team played in every match.

Has the advent of more subs, no combination games added to the injury list because of damage mainly to hamstrings where our squad is concerned, or did the likes of Shotton Briggs Hamilton etc play on with injuries and just sucked it up.

But it does seem to me that many of the team who come on/ go off as substitutes seem to have most injuries.
Brannagan, Harris, Moore, Brown, Mc Guane Stevens have played in almost every match and are up to match fitness whereas the likes of Goodrham, Murphy, Mills, Browne, Bodin Edwards Neghru are perhaps not getting enough proper game time and consequently prone to more injuries.

Long and Leigh different sort of injuries and not hamstring related

Dave Langan being a prime example.

No news as yet re the backroom set up and Chris Hacketts role, and whether there will be a confirmed Assistant Manager. I was expecting some news by today based on the interview the other night?

Des said that would become a lot clearer by Saturday so I’d imagine it is spoken out before or after the game tomorrow in one of his interviews.

Something may happen but it won't be quick with Tim dithering around. If we had a director of football I suspect we'd have an assistant manager (not Hackett) and another role filled already.

Absolutely fair assessment.

With a full squad, we’d be up there. Without it - and we’re desperately short of players - we’re a mid-table side.

Plenty of time to get some of our injured players back and some new signings in.
