I think Des can deal with the fitness and the data analysis side , yes.
Nobody has picked you up on this, so I will. Some of our fans need to get real, reset their expectations, and give Des time. Given our current infrastructure and revenue, being 5th in L1 is punching above our weight. Yes, we have potential to be higher which will come if we keep our owners and get a stadium. Said fans should be careful what they wish for. Oxford as a City needs the Universities but will function quite happily without a league football club, it's only the fans that would really suffer without one.
We could have got a higher profile manager in, we know how that would have played out.
We've got Des, for goodness sake get behind him - life is too short.
We are called United for a reason.
Still can't believe this was in reference to DesNot director of football - we have one of those
Our playing budget is 2nd? Someone recently showed a list that put it at eighth. I don't know which is true but we could barely field a team last night!Nobody has picked you up on this, so I will.
Our playing budget is 2nd in this division. We ARE NOT punching above our weight.
Our owners are putting a lot of money into the playing and non playing sides of the club. In my opinion, those people charged with managing it are not doing a good job with it (this is senior management, and not aimed at Des) so please stop this nonsensical "we're only little Oxford, and should be grateful to be here" rubbish.
I'm grateful that our owners are putting the money in, but very concerned at how it's being squandered.
Maybe because so much of it is tied up in certain players who we are not getting value for money from. Our playing budget is 2nd? Someone recently showed a list that put it at eighth. I don't know which is true but we could barely field a team last night!
That list was wrong, it was full of errors. You'll have to trust me on this, as I obviously won't divulge how I know, but I hope my track record on here counts for something. Our playing budget is 2nd? Does this not suggest to you that we need someone to come in and fill that void? Someone with experience in, I don't know, Assistant Manager recruitment processes for example. We currently don't have a director of football so yes Buckingham appears to be doing the two jobs.
We have the second biggest budget and yet Des pretty much put his hands up last night and said he wasn’t that bothered about losing because the game has come at the wrong time and we don’t have enough players..?That list was wrong, it was full of errors. If the 10-12k a week that has been widely reported is true, he's paid a considerable wedge for League One.Brannagan is excellent but I suspect he's being overpaid
That will be when you suggest others are "dead inside" for having an opinion different to you.I meant that Des Buckingham as well as Head Coach is to all intents and purposes Director of Football.
this place is poisonous at times

As I've said I do think we need assistance- but I don't think you necessarily need a Director of Football to cover Assistant Manager recruitment processes.Does this not suggest to you that we need someone to come in and fill that void? We were pretty much winning games that way under Manning too. Our numbers throughout the season have shown us overperforming versus clear chances created. Largely thanks to our left back no less. There are lots of ways to succeed in L1 but when you strip it all back it usually comes down to teams who are set up and effective at feeding a top predatory striker or, like Plymouth last year, having a very pacy, sharp and well drilled front 3/4 who interchange. We're between two camps and it shows even before it was all amplified by recent injuries.Obviously a brilliant goal but you cant rely on someone doing that every week to win you games? Just felt completely flat like majority of games have under Des.
I believe the slide was actually originally for Marcus Browne. He used it once and injured himself. It was passed over to Josh Murphy who injured himself installing it, and now it's with Henry. This was the point I was going to make.
The budget may be high but that could and probably does stem from decisions made before DB or Manning got here. We know there are some very well paid players here on silly contracts and who don’t offer much of a return on their wages.
Any rumour that James Henry rides a slide down into his cellar which is filled with gold coins and jewels like Scrooge McDuck?
Yep - It's how he initially sustained his injury that has kept him out all this time. This was the point I was going to make.

Being trained to a higher level, which in itself might not be true and would be almost impossible to prove, doesn't give you more hours in the day. The fact the manager is having to do two jobs is unfair and can only have a negative impact. He needs help, be it an assistant manager (who knows what Hackett is), a DoF or a Head of Performance to manage the fitness side of things. Perhaps we'll end up with a different assistant as hinted yesterday by Des himself and I wouldn't be shocked if one of the other roles was filled as well but it has still taken a hell of a long time.We currently don't have a director of football so yes Buckingham appears to be doing the two jobs.
he is trained to a higher level than the majroty of coaches and I imagine his role in the New Zealand national set up meant that he was dealing with data and scouting reports.
I was saying that the greater need was for someone who can improve communication internally and externally and take on project mamangement . Neither of those roles come under the ambit of the Director of Football.
Jamie Hanson is looking for a slide I hear...............I believe the slide was actually originally for Marcus Browne. He used it once and injured himself. It was passed over to Josh Murphy who injured himself installing it, and now it's with Henry.
