Surely the wording on what they're actually deciding on could have been agreed at the start of the meeting ahead of all the discussion.

Leasehold is good for us, right? As long as the rent is reasonable of course. Peppercorn has been mentioned but the devil is in the detail.
Yeah Man City, Newcastle etc don't have the freehold to the land their stadium is on (is owned by their CC), so wouldn't be an unusual development.

This feels like its all going in the right direction and everyone knows it. Just the detail to go through before vote

I've relented and finally put on the live stream, and the first thing I see is them announcing another adjournment... Is local politics always this exciting?

A leasehold is in principle the best way to secure the football club as it makes any terms and restrictions of use far more robust, and ultimately a lot more enforceable. The council will be minded to protect the club as a cultural asset and it would carry significant political weight, in terms of fans being able to hold them to account should they ever cause harm the club.

What is obvious here, especially with this additional break, is that they’re going to allow the club to build a stadium subject to planning approval. It’s going to be a ‘yes’.

Frustrating but if they're concerned with getting the wording right then it has to be positive, they want to vote yes just under the right terms. No issue with that, if they were telling us no then there's no need for this little break.
