Just got back to Derby.
Change of formation but no change in general play.
2 up top appealed to me but couldn't believe we were lumping balls up to a 5ft 8in player who clearly needs ball into channels. As much as Smith wasn't in the game, it could have been anyone who came off at half-time.
Too many technically gifted players on the pitch at the same time that try to make things to complicated. We are failing in the utter basics of the game for large parts of games at the moment.
Murphy wasn't too bad in general play but a couple of horrendous moments. that stand out a lot when you're under the microscope. He's not a wing-back, absolutely no idea why KR thought that was going to work.
Couldn't believe Bate came off. He was starting to dominate the midfield and was close to running the game.
I didn't feel like we were ever going to score today. Cambridge dug in, were gritty and did the basics well, they saw that game out fairly easily.
Have said on Twitter and will say again apathy in the stands and poor performances on the pitch are such a bad and dangerous combination. Cambridge fans were with their side from the first kick despite being in a far worse position than us whereas the whole away end just felt like there was a general feeling of waiting for it to go wrong.
Of course, positive on pitch performances provoke backing in the stands, but equally backing in the stands can influence the on pitch performance. The fact seems to be that the fanbase have lost/are losing enthusiasm and it has turned to general apathy and "mehness". The longer KR stays, the more apathy grows, we almost end up in a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's frankly, a very sad situation that seasons of such hope and positivity have been completely undone this year.
The above being said, the self-deprecation style chants that started immediately after Cambridge's goal are ridiculously childish.
This "blip" began in the collapse at the end of last season, it isn't a blip, it's a prolonged poor spell which is getting worse.
The board need to act now.
