I wondered if football matches are off over the weekend will this include other sporting events - The Great North Run being on Sunday I think?

Re the postponement of fixtures, it is worth remembering that people across the country will have booked travel, accommodation etc. which may well be non-refundable this late in the day.

The death of the Queen is undoubtedly a sad day but forcing people change plans and potentially lose out on money (especially in the current financial climate) just doesn't seem right to me.

I mean the horse racing was cancelled today, and the cricket and golf is cancelled tomorrow. I'm sure they'll all follow whatever is decided alongside the football.

But everything I said about how football should celebrate her life this weekend rather than cancel and stay at home is true a hundred fold about the horses. It was always said that the Queen was never happier than when she was at the racecourse. I can't imagine for a second that she would want the races to be called off in her name for longer than absolutely necessary.......

Tomorrow's games have been postponed with a decision for Saturday's games being made tomorrow morning.
I agree that the games should be played so people can come together and play tribute, instead of sit on the sofa on their own, watching telly.
The EFL's statement where they reference Her Majesty being fond of football and attending FA Cup matches, makes me think they are planning on playing the games. Hopefully the Government sees it that way too.

The Guardian are reporting that the premier league and EFL want games to go ahead, but have had little guidance from government and are waiting to see what the public mood is. I think there's a good chance they'll go ahead.

With the World Cup there are not many dates left for the prem and championship (the only league the EFL care about) to move games to.

My source (a random bloke off the internet) has told me that all sport is off tomorrow but back for Saturday. Doubt there will be any on the day of the funeral though.

Games should go ahead. Let people come together and celebrate her life in the way they see fit. We've had two years of not being able to that lets not forget.
Agree with this. Despite all the nonsense, football fans are very good at showing respect to those who have passed or are in some way struggling.
Recent events to honour Joey and Mad dog are testament to this.

Of all the things to cancel, I’m surprised the racing went. The Queen would have been pretty miffed by that.

I think we’ll see some sport occur over the weekend. The Test and PGA event can be knocked on a day but I can see football being cancelled with it getting going again on Monday evening.

Football will inevitably be cancelled this weekend - and rightly so. It’s a sad state of affairs if we can’t do without one weekend of football in honour of someone who served this country as head of state for 70 years.
What’s honouring her more though, not doing anything or having a stadium full of fans singing ‘God save the queen’ as West Ham did?

Moving stuff there. I’d love to see that replayed all over the country this weekend.

I don't feel that strongly either way, but I favour sport and most things continuing.

The show must go on for now but the day of the funeral the country will come to a halt ( and rightly so )

Very much agree with this.

When a usually raucous football crowd goes silent to pay their respects then I think it’s a particularly respectful and special moment. Paying your respects with others rather than at home alone because everything has been cancelled seems the right thing to do.

I also think she came across as a woman who would want life to go on. She’ll be in people’s thoughts and I don’t expect there to be sport on the day of her funeral.

Football fans are in the large an amazing lot of people who know how to behave and the West Ham 'God Save The Queen ' was as emotional as it could be.
Unfortunately not all are the same , Liverpool at home would be an embarrassment to the entire Nation I'm afraid with their fans likely reaction.
And that is all you would have being reported.
I think to have one weekend of rememberence for 70 years service isn't too much to ask either .

I think two clubs throughout the whole of Great Britain are the problem, not hard to guess which two.
