For those craft beer connoisseurs amongst us, over the road from the Wild Pig pub (closest pub to the ground), hidden away behind the petrol station in a small trading estate, is Rad Beers tap room with the choice of >450 different beers. Limited on numbers allowed in but if your a craft beer fan it's a must visit.

The Wild Pig is a very poor pub. If you cross the footbridge from the town centre there's a home pub on the left that's OK, best if you're not in colours.

Darren Drysdale, 51, is Saturday’s referee. Drysdale is a Sergeant at RAF Waddington, Lincs.
Football league ref's are not professional ?

No. There is a 'Select' group of professional refs, who take the Prem games and a few Championship games. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_refereeing_in_England)

From what I can find, refs in the Championship who don't belong to the select group get about £600 per game - so are semi pro at best. Once you get down to L1 and L2 it's probably £100, a free coffee and a pack of pork scratchings! Sometime you really *do* get what you pay for...

Conversely would you put yourself in that position for 100 quid and some pork scratchings?

If only the money being wasted on VAR was used to properly train and pay refs throughout the pyramid.

Looking forward to this one, will be a very tough match with not much in it.
Would be happy leaving the New Meadow with a draw, so going for 1-1.
Looks like have to collect the tickets from that little so called ticket office there. Which was so busy last year, with just one person working in the ticket office.

Quite a few comments on this thread suggesting posters would ‘take a draw/point’ on Saturday, which I find slightly curious.

Quick question – when do you expect to start picking up serious points? You know, like promotion winning tallies? Aside from those that suddenly think we’re in a relegation battle (or mid-table at best), the majority of us still have designs on the Top 6, no?

That being the case, we may need to win 24-26 games this season, so another 21-23 from the remaining 39. If away to a side that is likely to finish bottom half (albeit not cannon fodder) isn’t a game we should have confidence in winning, where are that number of wins going to come from?

I assume if you’d ‘take a point’ at Shrewsbury then you’d absolutely bite my hand off for a point at Plymouth on Tuesday (quite rightly) – but that would mean just 13 points from the opening 9 games (and just 3 wins).

Ipswich went there and won 3-0. Accrington won there! I’m not suggesting for a second that a point would be a bad result per se, but I don’t really think it would be a good one either.

This isn’t meant to be derogatory to Shrewsbury or those posters making the point - it’s a genuine question – if we’re looking at a point Saturday being a good result then I don’t know how you reconcile that with being promotion contenders.

Whilst I am not one of those who'd be particularly happy with a draw, I can see the point of view of those who would. We have a weakened team playing a slightly unfamiliar system and have looked very unconvincing so far this season against fairly average opposition. Coming away from an away game with a point would be far from a disaster in those circumstances. I'm not sure that we are genuine promotion contenders.

Went last season. Very good selection of craft beer. Can also park the car at the back for £5 if early enough.

I think Trevor Kettle converted his £100 fee into pork scratchings before each game anyway.

Unfortunately I think it’s a measure of how our expectations have plummeted. Before the season started this was one of the “easier” games that would see us top four by the end of this month. The prediction poll at the top of these threads has become more and more pessimistic as the season has progressed. Am going to Shrewsbury more in hope than expectation…..
