So my (very) cryptic clue was:
'He'd be a nice signing who would be good at dealing with bad fruit sellers'.

The answer was Macauley Bonne who we were certainly interested in and which the OM picked up on yesterday.

Macauley is quite an unusual name and albeit it's a slightly different spelling Macaulay Culkin is well-known and in particular for Home Alone. The two villains in Home Alone are these guys:

Their characters are called Harold Lime and Marvin Merchants. https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Harry_and_Marv

These are your bad (guys) fruit sellers (Lime Merchants).

In the film Macaulay Calkin wins the day and is 'good' at dealing with them.

In addition, 'Bonne' in french means 'Good'.

I can't believe that no-one worked it out :)

@Jaboysmith - hope that was worth the wait.
You’re Ted Rogers and I claim my £5

Well. Thanks 😳. I’m sure most of us were very nearly there. Maybe Karl was distracted trying to work this out, he forgot about the window. May we just have. “ the club are interested in a wing back form Timbuktu in future 👍

Then if such money is available, the real question is why has this window been so poor?

That’s a fair question. I’d like to know the answer too.

I did wonder if Robinson actually used up all of the increased budget with the fees paid for the signings of McGinty, Findlay, Wildshcut and Anderson. The money paid to secure Murphy’s signing, plus the loan fees for Bate & Joseph. Add on top of that the new contracts for Moore, Henry and in particular Brannagain.

Even though a lot of money must have been spent to do the above I suspect the board turned off the money tap when they realised that there was too much of their money sat in the treatment room, and Karl wasn’t delivering what he said he could.

It’s also interesting that Tiger suddenly turned up and the latter part of the window. If it was to help get deals over the line then it clearly didnt work, but perhaps he was actually here to find out why academy staff are quitting and why were there so many players in the treatment room?

Blimey Wallop, fair play to you for coming up with that. Too cryptic for me tho!

I went round the roundabout the wrong way 3 times with that, then i turned left instead of right and met the positive bus coming the wrong way up the one way street, in reverse!!

Seriously tho, u must do the Times crossword daily 😂👍

Surely though, if we go for a player like Ryan Hardie for example, in my opinion we have no chance of getting him. Why would he come here, why leave a club like Plymouth even if we offer more in wages, he would wait for a championship move. The point I am making is these sort of players will never come so we are wasting our time. We might be better investing in the better players in League 2. All this think big is a load of B*****s, you’re either a big club or your not, and we are not and never have been.

Totally agree, problem is, alot of oxford fans on here are abit deluded and think we are a big club. In div 1 we are a small fish in a big pond. Agree, we are not a big club, never have never been a big club and never will be.

So they are looking over things thats good to hear that 👍👍👍

To be clear, I don’t know for sure that’s the reason why Tiger turned up towards the end of the transfer window, but a guess on my part. It would explain why only one further deal got over the line and the money spring suddenly appeared to run dry.

I think that’s a fair challenge, are we going for players we realistically can get?

But I think it also partly depends on how much time you spend trying to get these players.

For example with Thomas-Asante, if we were one of the first clubs to trigger the release clause and we had the intention of trying to tie it up quickly then that’s fair enough. However as soon as it starts dragging, as soon as ‘bigger’ clubs come in then we have to move on. So give it a go, but don’t waste ages on a fruitless cause.

The impression I got is that we hung on in hope for too long with certain players, which then created a panic late on in the window.

We haven’t got a balanced squad post window, and there are no excuses. With last season effectively finishing after Rotherham away we even had an extra week to start getting things sorted.
