I’d love to know what happened here. Yes a dip in form last season, but you need a keeper nowadays to be comfortable playing from the back. That keeper isnt Eastwood, so why loan Stevens?
I think the problem is that our version of 'playing out from the back' is so predictable and so slow that it is very easy to counteract. Just put a modicum of pressure onto the defenders (there are normally three of them and one up the pitch), they will pass it back and forth until it gets passed back to the keeper who then hoofs it up the pitch. I agree that Stevens is slightly better at the last bit in that he could find a man better with the kick than Eastwood, but I am not sure doing it at all is doing us many favours. Man Utd are (at this very instant) playing it about at the back just because they've been told to against Brentford and are giving goals away for fun, one at least a direct result of doing so.

Playing it out is fine as long as you have the people to do it, the movement in front of them to offer an outlet and an alternative so that it isn't predictable. When you have none of those and do it so slowly, it just invites pressure.

Be surprised if we sign anybody to be honest. The new "money men" are more obsessed with getting PP at SB - makes no difference if we are still L1 next year.

So why did they turn down over a million quid for Brannagan and double his wages to stay in the process, spend a small fortune on a number of highly-paid summer signings, splash over a million quid on training ground upgrades and sanction a very costly Marbella training camp, if they’re quite happy to just potter about fairly aimlessly?

The owners are absolutely not at fault here. Not much more they could do. The only thing they are guilty of, in my opinion, is having too much faith in Mr Robinson to spend their cash wisely.
