Enquiry made about player A who is interested...Club T need a replacement so contact club U....Meanwhile Agent of Player A contacts club V stating there is an offer for his client. Club V invites player A for talks.....Agent receives call from Big Club X who will offer a far superior deal but need to offload one and so the Domino affect continues.

Bid comes in for one of your players and so the process similar to above continues.

Moral of the story Players don't just accept first offer yet some fans can't understand why he hasn't signed.
But the point some make is that the first initial enquiries should been made at the start of the month and signatures now after making noises about resourcing targets months ago.
There is no getting away from we are way behind a number of clubs who said they were getting recruitment done early and did, rather than seemingly using it as a sound byte when season tickets went on sale.

Ah yes. Was he reported as being "desperate" to come here, or was it more to the point that he wasn't at that point getting much of a look in and made his agent aware he'd be open to offers?

Anyway, it all changed very quickly with a change of manager...

You're right that things change. We had Jordan Thorniley turn up at an away game and was genuinely disappointed to leave, especially with the tit-for-tat stuff between the clubs and the Brannagan deal. However, he then got a decent run of games and I doubt Blackpool will be keen to let him go, and I'm not sure that we'd want to do business with them either.

Sammie Szmodics was very nearly a done deal in January until Peterborough pulled the plug. But Ferguson went and McCann came in and gave him a chance. Things change but I'm not sure that he'll come now, especially with 'Boro unlikely to want to strengthen a rival club.

But to counter that, some of those out of reach previously will become available and the asking price for some drop.

To keep the water theme going - there's plenty more fish in the sea!

It’s the same every summer! Fans want us to buy the best players, not sell any of ours, get all signings done by the start of pre season, expect us to challenge for promotion each year and then question when the club makes a loss!

Overall when it comes to recruitment I actually think we are one of the best in the league. Yes we were short in defence last season but that was not helped by injuries and Blackpool getting petty and recalling Thornley.

The club don’t get everything right (cough cough marketing) but I’d say we were pretty well ran on the whole on and off the pitch.
Short in defence last season??🤣

Out of interest, where is the quote from anyone at the club that business would be done early this summer?
Which clubs are we getting left behind by?
Players are under contract until the end of the week.
Are you happy with the signing of Brown?

Neither did I say you DID say it was a career-ender, (but the general perception on here is that a prior injury always predicts a future injury, to whit 'injury proneness').

A meta-analysis, by its definition, tends to take account of the 'mixed bag'.

We're probably best to let the club's medics assess the medical risk of signings.
Yes, a meta-analysis try's to take account of all of the research to give a better picture but as I'm sure you are aware, they can suffer from a number of methodological issues too and often do. It's not about us letting the club's medics assess the risk, they will do that anyway regardless of my view, that is part of their job. Robinson and the rest of the team will then take their own view, I'm sure, on the risk v reward. As this is a forum, I've just given my view on it, which to a certain extent we all do on here on a number of issues related to the club I.e club finances (we could say it's better for the club's accountants to assess this), stadium (better to let the clubs planners discuss this), signings (better to let clubs recruitment team discuss this) etc. I think we can both agree this place would be pretty dull if that were to be the case.

Players under conrract until the end of the week, totally irrelevant, during the window mant signed before a current contract runs out.

If you had bothered to read my post I was one of the few who said it was a brilliant piece of business.

Regarding getting left behind, Im sure your capable of reading the oxford mail to see who has signed what. I could cite Sunderland and Ipswich as examples.

In an earlier interview kr spoke of the importance of recruiting early as well as the recruitment process starting months before.

Sunderland? Do you mean Sheff Wed?

And on Sheff Wed and Ipswich, even with our increased budget, theirs is still far bigger than ours.

So far weve been let down by the underwhelming lack of inspirational signings through the door, after being promised a squad for a promotional challenge.
Where is the Peterborough striker we allegedly put a bid in for previously who was desperate to come to the club?
Its like 2 sides of a coin. Firstly we are told we have a healthy budget then the flip side is very different. The first statement going out as season tickets went on sale. After a disappointing end to last season things are looking distinctly mid table. I wish robinson would cut the spin and be honest about whats to come.
Surely the board can see what KR is doing after all isn't this supposed to be a promotion season 🤔

Yes they can but then the clubs discuss when they should announce it. The club the player is leaving might not want it released straight away,

I agree it is an excellent signing. So then you agree that by signing players like Brown is a good start?

So you name only 2 teams out of 23 that we getting left behind (I will assume you meant Sheff Weds). One is offering players over double of what they would be getting paid by us, the other is a club that is known for chucking money at a squad and signing players on mass but doesn’t always work out for them.

Yes the recruitment process does start early, usually in March time. KR has also had plenty of meetings with players and agents but again I have never seen or heard one quote from him saying we will be getting business done early. In fact just the other day he said we have a few lined up but will have to wait. This will be due to the other club involved getting their players in.

Sheffield Wednesday have signed some very good players, and as have Ipswich.

Bolton signed Iredale who I think is the best left back in Lge 1.

Barnsley signed Cundy who we should of been looking at because our defence badly needs reinforcements and strengthening.

Portsmouth signed Marlon Pack, a great signing for them, and could of been a Herbie Replacement.

Cundy and Pack and Iredale, are players well within our grasp, but we’ve let them slip by. We are on par with Barnsley and Portsmouth, and Bolton in the market among a few others. Forget Sheff Wed, and Ipswich they are on another level in the market.

That’s when it gets frustrating seeing other clubs being proactive, and getting business done quickly.

We've got Ocean Smyth too!

Fs man. I’m on holiday, and my Mrs has sworn me off YF - Can’t help myself.

This comment had me cackling. Cheers gents. I know we’ve had a rough week in terms of a few backwards and forwards convos, but It’s all love.

We all want the best for the club. I’m just a bit hard-headed at times. I’d back my club over my own mother. Up the fookin Yelluz!

Pack was always going to Pompey when they came in as he has said he has unfinished business there in the past. We never stood a chance, money wasn't the issue.

As an aside, it appears Pompey have a limited budget anyway from their fans' comments.

I’d have Brown over Cundy.
Can’t disagree with Iredale but then we might have other targets.
Pack is getting on now and to be honest I am glad he has gone to Pompey over us. As has just been said too, he was always off to Pompey too.
