Currently, our situation looks like this.

Transfers Out: Sykes, Hanson, Williams, Cooper, Winnall
Loans End: Brown, Kane, Holland, Whyte

Whilst it's not panic stations yet, I would've liked the club to have confirmed at least one signing by now.
With the signings of Henry, Baldock, Moore, plus hopefully a match fit Browne, our squad is much better than this time last year.
6 or so quality additions should give us a very competitive squad.
With Williams gone, maybe the Forde signing ( if his personal issues are now resolved) doesn't look such an odd decision

Yep slapper!

So when we were playing Birmingham City all them years ago, and we were singing about Barry Fry being a clown etc, and during the song calling Karen Brady a sl*g you never joined in.

Or did you try to tell everyone to shut up abusing the poor woman.

Bore off numb nuts.
Blimey, you've decided to keep digging. Not everyone did join in 'that' chant but you're right in that nobody tried to shut it down. However, times have moved on and and people, rightly enough, have a heightened awareness of casual sexism.

As an aside, who actually uses the term 'dolly bird' nowadays - have you been watching 'Porridge' recently?

Think 'dolly bird ' is more sweeney or minder tbh

Are they really signings? Yes they've technically signed new deals, but they were here last season so they're not new. Willing to admit though that Browne was signed for this season in mind, so he counts as maybe like half a signing this summer?

Porridge is quality, one of the best comedy’s of all time and it has an Oxford boy as it’s lead.

They count in so far as they could all have left and are first team players.
We are not there (6 or so additions), but have a pretty good foundation in my view.

Nothing wrong with Porridge. Back in the day when comedy was comedy, now you can’t get away with some of the one liners, and terminology used. It’s “not politically correct” crazy world we live in. I’m just glad I got to experience them old days.

The key for me this window, and the reason I'm not too fussed that we haven't brought anyone new in just yet, is that if the season started today we could field a really decent 11 for L1, all players whom know each other and have come close to success with us before. Not a league winning side, but certainly a really solid foundation:

Stevens
Long McNally Moore Seddon
Gorrin CamBran
Bodin Browne
Taylor Baldock

Bench: Easty, Mous, Forde, McGuane, Smyth, Henry, Davis

Obviously with that bench you aren't getting close to promotion. And so for me, rather than trying to get players in quickly and early to make up numbers and fill gaps in the first 11 like we have had to in the past, I'm quite happy with us taking our time and making sure every signing we make either upgrades the current first 11 and pushes them to the bench, or at least gives them real quality competition to push them to be better. We're starting from a good position; taking our time and making the right signings (in the right positions pls Karl!) is the best way forward in my opinion.

Now that Williams has departed we have 6-8 squad places left depending on what happens with Mous and Davis (hopefully neither in the 22). The positions we NEED competition/upgrades from those places for me are:

CB
CB
RWB
LWB
CDM
CM
RW
LW

And then a young loanee (U21) to be a third striker option. I like the look of the young Arsenal CDM, but this would be his first season in men's football and I think we need someone more experienced as competition for Gorrin than taking a risk on an 18 year old on his first loan. But as he's an U21 we could easily do both, which I'd happily take!

Having Henry and McGuane on the bench shows that we have some decent players already.
There are some positions we need to fill, but you are right, there are aleady foundations.
Not sure that Arsenal would send out a highly rated player to be third choice for 1 position. He would almost come in to compete with Gorrin

I’m not trying to be negative but let’s be honest in the last 4 seasons under Robinson’s regime & recruitment team we’ve had this problem of not getting transfers done early enough so they can bed into pre season training + games hence why the last 4 years in the opening 10 games or so we have a slow start & l can see that happening once again unfortunately which will have a knock on effect on us trying to get automatic promotion we missed that opportunity in 2020 when we should of got promoted.

Squad for 22/23 season in 3-4-1-2 formation. Not included Mousinho who has another year on his deal.

Room for 8 signings.

Signing an existing player on a new contract doesn't mean they're a new player just because they could have left but didn't. If they were loans made permanent I could see it, but not with permanent signings extending their deals. So far 0 new players have joined the club.

I'd argue that Baldock counts as a signing, as he was just on a short term deal before but is now very much our player.
