League One ‘Bayo AKINFENWA

If games are going to be halted for every offensive chant, it's going to be long into a Saturday night before we get home.

On a serious note, how long before a team refuses to play because one of their players is singled out by a quick burst of "You fat bastard" or "Where's your caravan"?

A linesman refused to continue at Crewe yesterday (albeit he was hit by something thrown by the Rotherham fans) and was replaced by the 4th official, but he could just as easily have been offended by a "Lino, lino you're a cnut" chant being aimed at him.

It will be interesting to see what the EFL do in respect to these incidents. We don't want to be heading towards a situation where teams can use crowd behaviour, either real or perceived, to affect the pattern of a game - drinks break anyone.........

I have absolutely no time for Akinfenwa, Ainsworth or Wycombe. Odious lot, one and all. However, I don't like the sex offender chant and hope not to hear it at our games. It's deeply unpleasant and unnecessary and not something that we should use against someone just because they're a tool.

Yep, pretty much this.

Wycombe definitely do have an air of Stevenage under Westley.

The sex offender chant is completely out of order by the way.
The sex offender chant is unpleasant but just silly, it’s not personalised or picking up on anything about an individual. Not something that justifies stopping the game, though I’m all in favour of players drawing attention to genuine hate speech.

It's a long way beyond silly, and is very much personalised by calling an individual a sex offender. It does need to stop.
It’s not personalised if it’s being used all round the country at players whose names happen to fit - it’s not a reference to anything they’ve done. I don’t like it though. ‘Have you ever seen your cock’ is funny.

I've always quite liked Akinfenwa, he's alwaye taken that banter when up for a corner in his stride.

If you listen to his interview, he alludes to the chant starting two weeks ago...

For those of us who don’t know, what is the chant? People saying “sex offender chant” means absolutely nothing to me.

#<insert team> boys on a bender
<insert player> is a sex offender#

Must have taken hours to come up with that....

The chant is horrific. Accusing someone of being a sex offender is abhorrent and can destroy lives. That is not on. Anywhere in society.

My issues is the way Wycombe are presenting themselves as angels. Are they forgetting the incidents perpetrated by their fans two weeks ago?

In no way am I condoning this chant, and in no way do I find it remotely amusing. I am however astounded the game was stopped and he spoke as he did in the IV after the game. I was expecting much much worse.

Pathetic and not at all a funny chant, but not a game stopping moment!

What's also a bit worrying is the rise in fan misbehaviour across the leagues generally - perhaps the most bizarre was (apparently) the Rotherham fans "coining" the linesman yesterday even though they were winning - cowardly & moronic but also bizarre if true - I know every club has its morons but why has it suddenly started up like this
