International News Israeli is a racist state operating ethnic cleansing

Yeah, a few people could do with accepting that criticism of Israel does not (necessarily) equal antisemitism.

Of course they already know this.
I'm Jewish. I criticise Israel. There is no doubt that there is section of anti Jewish racism among supporters of the Palestinian cause, I have witnessed it. I do think this is a minority though, a significant one, but a minority nevertheless. I can't stand the actions of Israel and they deserve their criticism.

Interesting stuff @Paul Cannell , thank you.

As an aside, I think it is sad to note the general ignorance among the population regarding this situation and many other political stand-offs around the world.

I did history to Alevel (albeit many moons ago) and mooro jr has done GCSE history recently and this wasn't covered in either* which is not ideal, but made worse by the fact that history GCSE is deemed optional while all children are forced to do all three sciences, even though these have little practical relevance to life beyond education unless you are actually working in one of the three fields.

* They do civil rights movement and the cold war, so not wasted by any means.

Anyway, I think that all children be taught about these things at school to avoid the ignorance/indifference that permeates around the background to events happening across the world every day, ahead of other subjects (ie the sciences) that are deemed essential despite never being used by 90+% of those who have had the misfortune to have to waste many hours of schooling sitting through.

Thats what the licence fee is spent on.....freebies for the Arabs.......pfffffffffffffft
Freebies for the Arabs? What do you even mean? Various news agencies used that building. No doubt they will say rockets were being fired from every window of the building but I reckon the Israeli government want to make reporting on the tragedy in Gaza even harder.

BBC Arabic reporter Adnan Elbursh.................it was for Arabs in ARABIC and was paid for by US.......... the bloke was talking ARABIC and was working for the BBC.....WE PAY FOR THIS s**t!!!

My Daughter has to go to Israel because of work but quite rightly it’s stopped at the moment and her husband to be ( July 3 ) has said when they’re married she won’t be going…..this will be interesting, and yes Israel want to rid Gaza of Palestinians.

And? The World Service is a vital service which has helped this country's influence overseas for many years.

Hmm. Not so sure on that last line, Baz. It’s lazy of me to chuck a long read into this thread to counter that point but I will do anyway. One or two of you may read it! Sam Harris is someone brighter and better informed than I will be on the issues or morals and philosophising the issue. It’s an interesting view to take (from 2014 but pertinent now). The title is slightly misleading as he evidently does have criticisms to throw their way.

I find the whole affair that has occurred in Israel and Palestine an utter failure of humankind. The worst aspects of tribalism, religion, nationalism and ownership that brings out the very worst in people whether they are involved in the region or crow their support from afar. I have no dog in the fight and nor do I want to. As an outsider looking in, I feel the idea of supporting either the Israeli side or the Palestinian cause is a hiding to nothing as goodies and baddies can’t be drawn from this.

Count me out. It’s not a circle to be squared until everyone in the region can shake off some fundamental aspects about themselves. Since those fundamentals are engrained, there will no solution to it.

Yes maybe my last line was more tongue in cheek, but I do think Israel would like the Palestinians gone. Having said that the various factions in the Palestinian ranks aren’t saints.

Hmmmmm might be a good idea not to send rockets into Israeli territory??....jus sayin... 👀 👀 🤔🤔🤔

As violence between Israeli and Palestinian groups worsens, misinformation relating to both sides is spreading on social media.
Twitter placed a "media manipulation" warning on a tweet by Ofir Gendelman, a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that was shared with his 97,000 followers.
The tweet in question featured a 28-second video that claimed to show Hamas firing rockets towards Israel during the latest round of violence - footage he said was evidence of a "war crime".
However, it has since emerged that the video in question is at least two years old.
This is a screenshot of the video shared by Mr Gendelman on social media.

Mr Gendelman's tweet, written in Arabic and posted on Tuesday morning, had said: "Here's more clear evidence that terrorist militia Hamas deliberately fires rockets from inside residential neighbourhoods in Gaza. This is a terrible war crime.
"A third of rockets fired at Israel fall inside Gaza killing civilians and children."
With the words "#Gaza now" written across it in red in English and Arabic, the video captures 17 rockets firing one after the other from an area next to the building the camera is recording from.
Three further rockets are then fired from slightly further away followed by another explosion in the same area.
However, reverse image searching of the clip showed it was posted on YouTube in 2018 - and the description says it was filmed in the Syrian city of Daraa. The tweet has since been deleted.

Twitter placed a warning on Mr Gendelman's tweet before it was deleted, identifying it as "media manipulation".
The social media giant's policy states that it places this warning on content when they have reason to believe that "media or the context in which that media is presented are significantly and deceptively altered or manipulated".

Mr Gendelman also shared another video - this time from TikTok.
The caption translates to: "Hamas, as usual, is trying to mislead the media and public opinion by staging fabricated plays, and now it has shown young men alive as if they were corpses, but their efforts are not convincing and the bodies are moving. We expose the lies of Hamas!"
However, a search for the TikTok account watermarked on the video shows that this clip was posted back in March.

The user's profile states that they are based in Nazareth, but there is no apparent evidence of a connection to Hamas.
The account mostly shares videos of the user riding on motorcycles and in off-road cars.

Fake news is also being shared against Israel.
A controversial Kashmiri cleric shared this photo, which he says depicts a journalist crying outside al Aqsa mosque.
The mosque was where the fierce clashes between police and protesters that sparked the recent escalation took place.
The photo was shared in 2019 on the Asian Cup football tournament's Twitter page.

However, the picture was taken during the Asian Cup football tournament in 2019.
Facebook has flagged the cleric's post as "false information".

Fair enough. But why do you quote a cohort of Richard Dawkins whose primary interests career-wise seem to be denigrating religion (particularly islam) and writing middle-brow books on subjects on which he has little knowledge. I'm just reading the article you quoted and the wikipedia page on him.

The argument that a jewish state is necessary because of the holocaust ignores the historical fact of it's establishment (actually the preparation of it's establishment by jewish immigration, and the political reality of the 2021 British Mandate which explicitly announced the creation of a jewish homeland), and fails to acknowledge the existence of a functioning, developed society whose land it was built on. The theatrical shriek that israel's atrocities aren't atrocities because the muslims (remember this is a professional muslim-hater speaking) would do far worse just demonstrates that he has never actually engaged with palestinians, in my opinion.
